AEM V2 vs K&N FIPK
ive been contemplating buying a new intake for a couple months now and today my dad told me he wants me to get something different as well because of the possibility of hydrolock. so i started thinking and it basically came down to the v2 and the fipk. ive heard good things about both but i really want to find out for myself which one gives the most performance and sounds the best. comments and opinions about either would be highly appreciated.

Well they're both gonna be noisy. I've heard V2 performs good on LX/DX only. The K&N is proven to work and has a better design, plus it's proven to give 4-5whp without alot of low-end loss.

I was at the Atlantic City Auto Salon today, and the AEM promo book suggests that Civic owners from 2000 on get an SRI - says in the application chart that SRI will actually give the car more horses. I found it kinda hard to believe, but it was printed in their promo material.

I had an AEM sri and that thing was the worst rice ever. Loud all the time and makes you lose low end power. Just installed my fipk and it's so much better. Less noise, and no low end loss.
Just installed the FIPK2. Great sound but can't really notice the extra 5hp, not much to feel anyhow. When I started the engine I was like, oh cool, it sounds just like stock, then I got on the highway and rode around in town and it sounded pretty good too. Not very obnoxious but still good.

It does sound good and you can't really hear it on the highway. The hp is there, but not really noticable. I got it for other reasons, though. (PnP head

There's only one for our cars, but sometimes people call it both. It's the same thing, fipk=fipkII. Robearracing has them for $225 shipped - $10 summer discount = $215. There is also a groub guy starting to form.

Well, I had a mess of wires running everywhere. It was a tight fit with the heat shield because my neg and pos terminals are reversed. Otherwise it's just two brackets to attach the heatshield. Then everything else sort of just pushes on. Took me the longest time cleaning up the engine bay wires to make it fit. I can take a pic tomorrow if you want. Turned out okay in the end. Normally, it should be easy to install.
Neither of them will give you much of any gain. I had a Fipk II , and sold it. The Fipk II is the best for our cars, but like a couple others said in here, I agree, The fipk II looks good, sounds real good, gives very little gain if any. A stock intake is the way to go , with a K&N drop-in air filter. If you look at the dyno chart you will see the 4.6 hp gain comes at 6,000 rpm's . how much do you drive your car at 6,000 rpm's?? That is almost redlining your car. So, your car will drive just like stock before hittin way up in rpms , if you want looks, sound (good), and no low end loss like the other intakes, go head and get the fipk II $220.00 though.

Installation of the FIPK II is easy. (I think they made an FIPK, but never produced it. They improved it, produced it, and called it the II.) All you have to do is disconnect the battery, unbolt a few things, and bolt this in. It's easy. You don't have to permanently move anything.
The hardest - and definately most frustrating part - is getting the padded part on the heatshield. I spent about an hour and MANY vulgar words on that heatshield.

I'm pretty damned happy with my AEM SRI. I haven't had any major problems with it. It's basically the same design of the K&N FIPK, but doesn't have a heat shield. You could also get the Injen SRI. I've heard pretty good things about that one too.

Well I drove around the second day with my fipk and the response got better. I think it's adjusting or something. Definately beats the AEM SRI I used to have and always hate...gave me a bad impression about intakes. Maybe this has something to do with the auto tranny being right under the filter. Heat shield from K&N must be helping.
