Here's a lightened flywheel
I forgot how much our stock ones weigh.
Anyway, this one is 6.5lbs. Fidanza. 01-03 1.7L SOHC. $239. I dunno if that's a good price or not.
Does anyone have a lightened flywheel? How do you like it?

This is a double edged sword.
Yes, a lightened flywheels will help your acceleration, but they also lose momentum VERY fast. Meaning if its too light, you'll kick the clutch and lose all your RPMs. So you'll be gassing to rev-match constantly. I think the stock one is 14 or 15 lbs. Its not terribly heavy. I would think that dropping it down to about 10 lbs would make a difference and keep the momentum loss managable.

go to www.dh-racing.com They can do a service on your STOCK flywheel to lighten it...for only $100. $200 if you dont want to send them yours. Sounds like a deal to me. When I get enough dough to do 'go', Im definitely goin DH internals.

Autos don't have a flywheel.
They have torque converters to suck copious amounts of power away from the car.

Just do an auto to manual swap. Then you can get a lighter flywheel. It's really that simple.

even autos have flywheels. they're attached to the torque converter. I think only diesel and 2 cycle engines don't have flywheels. not sure about rotary though. in fact, that's how you start your car, starter spins the flywheel. correct me if I'm wrong on ours but last i knew that's how it was.

^^ this is true.. the fly wheel also is attached to the starter motor.. so all cars have a fly wheel, altho im not sure if it is different for the auto than for the 5spd...
