What exhaust am i looking for?

i want to get a cat back system for my car, and have new tubing installed (mandrel bent of course), but don't know which one to go with. i want a low, deep throaty sound. i don't want to get something that is gonna be real high pitched and sound like a nest of pissed off bees in a coffee can. it has to be a fairly deep tone. i am also gonna be installing either an AEM intake or an injen intake (haven't decided whether short-ram or cold air yet). other than that, the car is gonna be pretty much stock. im sure eventually i'll add some other stuff, but budget will require me to do things in steps. also, i am not worried about horsepower, so the gains aren't as important to me as the actual sound. its just a four banger, so horsepower isn't a real big deal. i just want to make sure it'll sound good. sure, horsepower is good, and the more the better, i am not knocking that, but i'll sacrifice a few to get a better overall sound.

the best fit for you would be either AEM(cold air intake) or Injen(short ram intake) with a DC Sports twin canister exhaust

thanks for the replies. as long as it isnt that ricey high piched chainsaw sound, then thats cool. i just don't want to hear that high whirr that is common with the kids around here with their cheap *** bumblebee exhaust.

any more idea's? does greddy, or hks, or skunk2 make an exhaust that fits my application? i already have reccommendations for tanabe and dc sports. and to the person that reccommended tanabe, which tanabe are we talking about exactly? and i will be getting mandrel bent pipe, in case i didn't say that. also, opinions on catback -vs- full system? which would sound better in my case?

well, i would like some sort of performance increase, but that itsn't the main concern. if i get max gains out of a coffee can exhaust, then i don't want the most gains. but i would like some gains. by full system i meant headers back. not replacing the header yet. im sure when i do though it'll more than likely be something such as the DC Sports 4-2-1. also, my car is an 01 ex, if that matters any. whats a decent price on a header back system? and then what are reasonable install fees?

That doesn't make any difference at all.

I have the DC TCS cat-back with the DC 4-2-1 and as much as I hate DC most of the time this is an incredible system...

I love the deep sound I get from it too...he he he...

dude if you want sound and performance, then just go down to your local exhaust shop and have them do from the header to the cat, and then from the cat to the muffler. Then pick out your muffler, or find one online!! Magnaflow makes some good sounding mufflers!! The mandrel bend isnt going to make a difference on our cars!! So save your money and do what I said above!!! your looking at about $250-350 at the most!!! Anyways thats just my 2cents

Did you say you'd be willing to sacrifice a few hp for sound? Just get a tip or something then if all you care about is sound. They're like $20.

what i meant about the sound was that i didn't want it to sound really high pitched, like a lot of the kids around here's exhausts, RICEY, they get the mufflers put on that make it sound like ish... really high pitched, kinda like a dirt bike.

hi,

basically for look, is there an exhaust big like the G35 coupe's which DOES NOT MAKE sound and also fit a civic sedan?

since exhaust will not increase performance, I don't want the sound neither... any idea?

I highly recommend the Magnaflow cat-back system. I got mine at a cheap price, $500CDN taxes in. Looks great and sounds close to stock, just a bit deeper and smoother. The website claims like 9hp gains, but at the track I found it improved my 1/4 mile time by around 0.25-0.3 seconds. Not much, but still something I guess!

Unless all you are looking for is cool looks and sound, stay away from axle-back mufflers. They won't really offer anything in terms of power gains, maybe 1 or 2 hp if you are lucky.

I'm still debating what system to get for my car. I sold my Magnaflow last spring because I needed the cash, but now I'm thinking of installng a new system. As it stands, I think I might get the Magnaflow cat-back, if I can get the same deal!

intake and exhaust

I had an AEM CAI intake....I switched to the K & N FIPK II and noticed
better gains. AEM CAI piping gets hot due to radient engine temperature
and it has a long way to travel to get to the throttle body.

I noticed a huge difference once I got the K & N FIPK II.
It has a deeper sound.

You will not notice a gain in exhaust. Stick with 2.25" mandrel bent
piping and keep the resonator if you want a deep sound.

I have a magnaflow with 2.25" mandrel bent midpipe and no resonator.
It sounds o.k. but not like an integra. Was kinda dissapointed that there
were no noticable gains.

ok,

I see that the RS*R exhaust kit or even some high end cars come with stock "stealth look" exhaust and cat. That is, they are coated with ceramic and they are black. And they have a chrome muffler tip.

so, can I coat the civic stock cat to black by painting them with black hi-heat resistant paint? So it will be a DIY "stealth"? because personnaly I like to hide the exhaust as good as possible, so only the chrome tip is seen.

Holy **** that website says the Flowmaster exhaust gives us:

10-15 HP/26 ft lbs Torque

Hahahahaha!

But it's only $192.99, so it's probably the cheapest one. I would pay that much for those gains, if they were real.

It also says the dual exhaust for the Civic gives you 5hp and 5tq.

If you want to go the cheap way, but doesn't sound cheap. Go to mufflertech.com, get a rear section for $140 then go to a muffler shop and get 2.25" piping from the cat to the rear section. Runs about $200 to $250 depending on the shop. I have this and it sounds awesome. I can send you a sound clip if you would like. Just pm me with your email address and I will send it.
