First off its VTEC. you can probobly find one in a junkyard or check out the for sale forum. Vtec on the d17 is too overated. IMO
If you want around the same power you'd need the pistons too, or if you want to go the N/A (Natuarally Aspirated--no boost) route just go to your dealership and get the Honda Civic GX (Natural Gas) pistons and they'll bump your compression up, but then you'll need alot of other things too, there's a thread on that if you want more info on that route-girl who did Honda GX piston swap You'll need the exauhst from one too or an aftermarket header and new piping from the header back (no cat would be the way to go depending on your local emmision laws). Umm, all else that I can think of is a new ECU and wiring correct me if I'm wrong and if I forgot anything.....Hope that helps!!

Rep Power: 326 Yeah man, if you really want one, hit up a junk yard. It's a lot of money to gain a few horse. Why not boost? Go to the forced induction forum, there's some bang for your buck. You would need an EX exhaust as well, along with some good compression if you want to come close to the whopping 127hp. I reccomend saving a little bit more and buying nitrous/boost/swap/ or a built engine (Better off building up a swap). V-tech is a phone company, VTEC is what Honda uses.

Rep Power: 0 You can probably find the whole engine used for $500-$700. It's not exactly in high demand. Then sell your old one for around $500. If you shop around for the new engine and get good money for your old one, you could almost break even. Then all you have to really worry about is the labor for doing the swap.
However, why bother? getting VTEC in your engine bay isn't going to turn your car into a rocket. If you want to add power there are better ways.

Anyways, yeah, like everyone else has said, invest your money in something else. I suggest buying a good intake, exhaust, clutch and flywheel. Then some nice tires, a little weight reduction, and you're set. This way you're putting as much to the wheels as possible. Plus, if you figure how much it costs to put all these things in your car, it comes out to the same price (roughly) as if you were just gonna put the VTEC head on your LX.

Rep Power: 0 Most other hondas and acuras have dohc instead of sohc. So two over hand cams will pull vtec a lot better than a single over hand cam. Of course a racing or proformance cam will perform better than a stock cam, but a single cam can only do so much to performance.

Rep Power: 0 The advantage of a DOHC over a SOHC is that you can tune the timing of the intake valves with respect to the exhaust valves (the overlap) by just adjusting the CAM gears. With a SOHC to make such changes, you would need a new CAM.
You should be able to have a SOHC achieve the same results for a given application, if you have good R&D. You just loose the flexibility of changing the overlap with additional mods.
Bottom line: a SOHC can perform as well as a DOHC, it just depends on the R&D that goes into it.
