Hello all!
My 2000 Civic coupe has been getting pretty poor radio reception, but I don't remember if it had always been like this. It's not so terrible that I can't get any station to tune in, but it fades out quickly in spots where other car radios were still picking up strong signal. My fiancée's 1993 Ford Taurus gets much better reception and the car has definitely seen it's better days.
I recently had the radio out of the dash and I made sure the antenna has a night tight connection. It also has to do with where I drive, not what kind of electrical load the car is under, so I don't think it would be major electrical interference.
Has anyone else found their Civic reception to be lacking? Does anyone have any suggestions to remedy this? Has anyone noticed better reception with a new head-unit, or is this more of an antenna issue? I was thinking of either adding extra electrical insulation to the cable and antenna itself or possibly replacing the antenna with one which is built much more solidly than the stock sliding antenna. Does anyone think this would be useful, or just a waste of time tearing the car apart?
Any advice or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!
- Woody

the plug on the end of the cable from the slider on mine literally fell apart in my hands. it's tucked somewhere around behind the l/h lwr edge of the dash. always had crappy reception too.
OEM or aftermarket head unit?
The radio is an OEM without cd or cassette player.
have you or the previous owner messed with the stereo wiring?
Nope. I had the dash apart to change some bulbs and everything looked completely stock and unmodified.
