93 Civic running rough-dying
93 Civic running rough-dying
Hello,
I'm at the end of my rope here. I have a 93 Civic CX hatch that I've had since 1994. I've got 455K on the car with a used motor install about 120,000 ago.
It's been running great until this past summer. I've had it in the shop multiple times since then. The mechanic and I can't figure it out.
One day I was driving to work and it died. I coasted to a stop, restarted, and turned back to the house. It died 5 more times within 5 miles. It threw the ignition code (15 I believe). I replaced the ICM, coil, rotor and cap.
Now, it starts out with a barely noticeable stuttering (almost feels like a quick wind blast against the body). It will do this for a few miles and usually at 60-70 mph. It continues to get worse until it's really stuttering (not sure if it is really missing-that's just what it feels like). It will die but I can usually get it restarted. At some point, it will be stuttering/hesitating so much that it's like riding a bull. Ultimately it does not matter what speed I'm driving. Typically, it will not act up while idling, but yesterday as I was driving/coasting very slowly to a traffic light, it died.
Since August these items have been replaced. (Some you might think odd, but we had other issues develop in between looking for the main problem.)
Ignition coil (twice)
Ignition control module
Rotor and Cap
Plugs and wires
Distributor (new installed, still having issues, removed and took back)
ECM (two times)
fuel pump (three times)
timing belt (and water pump)
EGR tested
Fuel pressure tested
the line to the fuel filter is clear
the vent line from the tank is clear
electric wiring traced out and seems good
injectors seem good but have not been replaced
I'm tired of throwing money at it. It seems like it should be easily fixed. But we're not having any luck. The mechanic even brought in a specialist of some sort. He determined the timing belt was slipping and it was replaced and re-timed. But that didn't fix it.
Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this.
