Hose leak

Just a wee pinhole leak in the number 3 hose, but what do you call it? I think I should be able to pick it up at the local auto parts store, but because of the age of the car (1990 Honda Wagoneer) I'm not positive. If I have to order it, then that's what I'll have to do, but even then what am I ordering? I've got something I'd like to be able to drive to myself tomorrow night. Hahahaha!

Re: Hose leak

Yeah you should be able to get one. If you can, drive to an auto shop (O'Reilly's is my choice), take it out if you can, and bring it to the counter. They'll hook you up.

Thanks. That's what I was figuring on. I bought it from a guy who runs a shop down the street, I'll pop it down there. No issues running short distances. God willing, I can run by tomorrow night.

Re: Hose leak

Well I did stop in to my local Pep Boys and what they have is vacuum or heater hose available by the foot. It certainly looks like it will do the job, my only concern is will this type of hose hold up to the heat of the coolant that's going to be running through it. I obviously can't have the piece melt on me. I assume it'll do, but would like to be sure. It's not an emergency must fix now, so I'd rather do it right the first time.

Factory hoses, dealer?
Uhh, maybe not due to shelf life issues. How old would OE replacement hoses be now?

-------------------------------------

If you got a pinhole in one of the small hoses, and it's almost 25 years old now.... and you have a pile of other small coolant hoses on there that are just as old as the leaker, then I'd say to replace all of them before you get stranded with a huge problem.

So many of them are pre-formed....bulk hose sometimes can't be used due to kinking instead of smoothly bending. IDK if anyone even sells a suitable coolant hose in bulk that size.
It's about 8mm ID, right? (5/16") Fuel line can be had in that size but probably won't last but a year or two in antifreeze.

Heater hose is too damn big, I suppose?

Bingo!

The name oreilly is in that link, give your local Oreilly store a call of you have one.

I'm sure these aren't original hoses at this point, but first things first.

Yeah 5/16 is about right. They have fuel line available and a 1-2 yr solution is fine for now. I don't drive much, home and back pit stops on the way. Less than 3K a year easy, rarely far from home.

Don't have O'Reilly's here in PA. It's Pep Boys and AutoZone.

You might be surprised.

Don't have O'Reilly's here in PA. It's Pep Boys and AutoZone.
Those are the stores that are open on Sunday.
There's far more parts suppliers than that. NAPA? CarQuest? I'm sure there are local independent stores that cater to professionals instead of DIYers. Bust out your yellow pages. Seek them out.

It's Gates hose. You have a part number now, all you need to do is find a supplier willing to get what you need.
