95 civic 1.5 spark plug loosened up
Hey guys noticed when I got in my sons 95 LX civic it was spuddering. I noticed the # 3 plug wire was not seated fully onto the valve cover then found the spark plug somehow came real loose so i tightend it down. Ive had the car for 1 year and this is the 1st. The guy before me replaced the plugs but did anyone ever see a plug come loose on its own, it could be it was not tightened to begin with but I doubt it since I have been driving it for a year.
thanks
thanks
Re: 95 civic 1.5 spark plug loosened up
so I read up a little, their is some oil in the spark plug tube area and some on the wire boot and the other cyclinders have a little bit so I will replace the valve cover gasket, new wires, plugs, and the tube seal gaskets but why would the plug come loose from the cyclinder? Does the oil that makes it down to the plug thread loosen it? sorry for being so anul but I am a loyal honda owner.
Also should I have the valves adjusted? Dont have any history on repairs but the car has 150,000 and runs nice.

You should have pulled the plug out and examined it before you tightened it.
If the gasket on the spark plug is not squashed, then the plug was never tightened correctly in the first place.
Many people don't tighten them enough (even professionals) and they CAN back out on their own. Yes, it could take a year for this to happen.

#16 and #17 are the seals that leak.
You need 3 of #16 and 1 of #17.
Link to catalog (here) but I only picked a random 95 vehicle. You need to select your actual car.

I have seen spark plugs come loose after a severe overheat, but you would have other, more pressing problems if that had happened.

Hey, when I wrote "Yes" to the valve adjustment, it should be done immediately after you reinstall the rockers and cam caps when you change the 4 rubber seals on the plug holes.
IOW, Don't waste time adjusting valves before you take it all apart, because you are supposed to adjust them all over again when it goes back together.
