Hey guys just purchased a 1991 DX as my project and garage car. The car runs great except I noticed that when I accelerate from a stop light I hear this "whirring" noise coming from the engine as I apply gas. It seems to stop after a bit once more speed is generated (usually above 30-35mph). But in low speeds it sounds like a flute like sound (not obnoxious loud but noticeable if you were next to my car with window down.

I've looked around on sites and some say it could be the airbox but I'm thinking more of the other one I've been seeing which is the alternator. Going to head to autozone to have it tested. Is there any other possibilities. Like I said car runs strong and doesn't give me any problems shifting or moving through gears. I just get that light flute like sound when I slow to a stop at a light or stop sign or apply gas to move forward. Any help is appreciated. Its an automatic.

I for a short period had something like that sound on my 95 EX. But its only when the temp goes below 20ish and it stops after it warms up. Can hear it coming out of the air duct in the engine bay.

Post a vid if can. Im curious what it sounds like

Sounds like a bad belt or bearing. Take the longest, thinnest screwdriver you have and CAREFULLY touch the head to each component and your ear to the handle. Once you hit the correct component you'll instantly know.
