Engine overheats/Fans not working?

I have a 93 Civic which has served me pretty well for the past two years, but it has began to act up in the past couple weeks. Near the end of a road trip I noticed the engine overheating and ended up refilling the coolant which was bone dry. Two weeks later of making short trips, the coolant system was again empty. I refilled again and have since been checking the levels everyday and have noticed no drop of the levels ... but the engine continues to overheat. A friend watched it idle and noticed my fans are not kicking on. Any suggestions?

check the fuse and the wiring to the fans and if all is good then your fans have stopped working but i doubt they have and the loss of coolant could be caused by a blown head gasket

I have checked the fuses and all of the wiring which seems in good condition. How would I check the head gasket ... and would the head gasket cause overheating?

yea the head gasket will cause over heating and there is a couple of things u can do to see if ur head gasket is blown u could check and see if there is a grey oily type sludge around ur radiator cap or you could see if there is water in ur oil or just even loss of coolant could be a sign
