Owning a Civic Long Term By a Home Mechanic

I'm considering replacing my wife's 1995 Corolla with a 2008 Civic LX. We plan to keep it for 10-15 years if we buy it.

I've tried searching and haven't been able to really find how easy the Civic is to work on long term. I recently replaced the rack & pinion and some leaking freeze plugs in the Corolla. It is like a puzzle and practically have to take everything apart to make progress. I wasn't far from just hoisting the engine out...

So can anyone give some general comments, especially relative to working on a Corolla? I don't plan to do anything other than keeping it running (no mods). I looked in the engine bay and a third to half of the engine is under the dash so it looks worse than what we have now. I'm sure nothing will be as easy as my 4cyl truck...

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Hands full of cuts still healing from corolla work...
