Mysterious startup problem

The car is a 1992 Honda Civic. On Day 1, I filled up the tank with gas, drove 100 miles, parked for 2 hrs, drove 10 miles, parked for 1 hr, drove 2 miles, parked for 2 hrs, drove 150 miles, parked overnight.

On Day 2, I drove 3 miles, parked for 4 hrs, couldn't start the car for about an hour, car started, and I drove 150 miles.

During the time I couldn't start the car, it would turn over fine, but wouldn't start, as if there was no gas. Turned the key for about 5 seconds, waited for 10 sec, tried again, waited for 10 min, tried 2-3 times again, waited for 15 min, tried 2-3 times again, waited 5 min, tried 2-3 times, etc for about an hour. Then, the engine started normally and I drove 150 miles without incident.

This problem is highly sporadic -- it happens once every 4-6 months and in any weather. When the engine is running on the highway or idling, it runs normally. I don't notice any problems, hiccups, or stalling. The start problem happens with a cold or hot engine -- doesn't seem to matter.

Doesn't anyone have a clue of what's going on?

this is a tough one... normally i would say a short in the fuel pump or ignitor.. but since it never hapens while driving, that limits it only to systems that are only used to start.. my first guess would be to change plugs.. maybe you're running rich and they are fouled but descent enough to run once it fires.. idk.. so many things could be slightly out of wack that is's almost impossible to figure out...

Ive had this problem on another car.
It could be some bad wiring. Fiddle with the wires near the injectors (or from the injectors?) and see if it has any effect.
