What are the best performing spark plugs I can get for my '98 Civic w/ D16Y7 engine. Can you give me an ebay or other link?

Manual lists these spark plugs for a D16Y7 engine like mine and D16Y8.
ZFR5F-11 (NGK)
KJ16CR-111 (DENSO)

Use the NGK plugs specified.

Every parts store should be able to get them, if they don't already have them on hand. Call and ask.
You ask for NGK brand, ZFR5F-11. ($2.29 each at AutoZone, probably similar everywhere.)
Don't let them look up your car, you already know exactly what you need.

They are relatively cheap.
Anything else can get expensive.

The Densos aren't as popular, but also work as well as the NGK.

Don't bother putting anything else in that engine, no matter how hard the snot-nosed kid at AutoZone pushes Bosch Platinums at you.

When I go to NGK's website and enter my car, it gives these spark plugs that will fit my car. How does the V-power compare to Iridium IX spark plugs if I my engine has no mods? Yes, V-power is cheaper than iridium IX which is good.

Dont run NGK's. Those are the crappiest plugs you can buy. They will be more, but get a set of Bosch Platinum plugs. They last forever, and you can notice the change when you put them in.

Bosch plugs are crap, yes you feel a difference the first time you hit the gas, but that's about it...They are CRAP trust me. The NGK's are best, and you only need the basic set. I run the NGK's that cost like $2 each in my turbo'd Honda and they run amazing. Use the ones Ezone specified, he knows his stuff....

As far as the difference in plugs, I don't know, never really cared enough to look into it. Just do a google search or I bet the NGK website has some info on it.

When the clown at ChinaZone says they are the best, that doesn't mean they are good for your car. It's only good for the clown's pocket. They generate the most profit.
They are expensive in price.
They are incredibly expensive in total cost.
They are the FIRST thing to be removed for ANY driveability complaint.

Spark plugs do not GAIN you any performance.
They can only restore optimum performance.
And that only happens if there was a performance problem caused by the old plugs.

What's the differences between all those NGK plugs?
Three of your choices are NOT what Honda installed in your car nor specifies in the manual.
It's THAT simple.

Only ONE of those choices matches the number specified in your manual.
Why all of the questions? (Not necessarily dumb, but...)

The plugs you need get scheduled replacements every 30,000 miles.

The other plugs could last the life of the car, and are designed for 100k replacement intervals. (How long are you going to keep this car?)
They work well in applications where plug access is nearly impossible, like where an intake manifold must be removed for access.
But at a much higher price.
Completely unnecessary.


Are you an engineer?
Are you smarter than the engineers that designed the engine?
Are you smarter than the engineers that decided that NGK and Denso are the plugs they wanted in that engine?
Hell no, you ain't.
You were smart enough to find the CORRECT part numbers in the manual, and it stopped right there.

Is this really that tough?

I wanted to know experiences which is why I came to this forum.
As long as it is practical to keep it.
I study Electrical Engineering.
I don't know.
Don't know.
I don't have experiences with any of these spark plugs and want to hear from whoever does.
My car and its manual was made 14 years ago. Parts that don't have a matching part number can be used sometimes.

The NGK ZFR5F-11 number is still valid, readily available, and completely and exactly appropriate for the car.
Use it.
Period.
End of story.

Don't complicate simple sh*t.


If you want to spend a bunch more coin and never wear out another plug, then use the NGK Platinum or Iridium.
If you think that engine will never ever burn oil or foul a plug, then go for it.
Note here that "wear out" is one thing, and "foul out" is another.
IMO, it isn't worth it.
You can buy several sets of the Z plugs for the price of a set of I or P plugs.
