D16Y8 How do I make it faster?
Recently got a 1997 Honda Civic EX after wanting a Civic for years. It's the third car i've owned so far and i'm pretty set on keeping it for a while. I was wondering which route I should take on making this car faster? Eventually a turbo will be put on it but like how do these people on here get their little Civics to 200-300 HP and above that? That's the goal for me. What would be the best things to do to get this thing beating people in a straight line? Also is there any engine swaps I could do to this car that wouldn't require a new cradle or different motor mounts? Would be really cool if I could put like a B18 in this thing.

Bolt-ons are worthless for D-series engines. Turbo or engine swap is your only option for increased hp and torque. Not as simple as just installing a turbo though..you'll need to research it thoroughly and plan on spending more than you might guess. Engine internals should be upgraded before adding turbo.
Cheapest route is a B20 engine which may require different engine mounts. Read up on B20 specs and swap..ton of info online. Honda Tech seems to have more members into swaps so you may find more info there. I have a 1995 Civic EX with a 1999 JDM B20b swap (previous owner did swap). It's a non-Vtec and good torque is available across the entire powerband instead of at high revs compared to a B16.

Compression: 9.6:1
Bore: 84 mm (3.3 in)
Stroke: 89 mm (3.5 in)
Redline: 6700 rpm
It's a fun car to drive especially while cornering but, straight line speed isn't too impressive..unless compared to a D-series..lol
A (5th gen) '95 Civic EX is just over 2,000 pounds. 6th gens are a bit heavier.

You'll need money, a lot of money.
$4,500 to $6,000 for Boost
$4000 - $5000 for High Comp.
$700 to $1200 for Engine Swap
$500 to $1000 for NO2
...that's if you do the labor your self.
