honda civic 1997 lx wont start . eld problem?

honda civic 1997 lx wont start . eld problem?

I was having very rough idling problems lately .
also , cluster lights dimming and radio was turning on and off .
eventually when I turned off the car , it wouldn't start up .
tow truck guy gave me a jumper the car turned on almost instantly . then it wouldn't turn back on .

I have a code for the ELD

where can I get this part ? also can some one provide a picture showing were the engine wire harness is located? thanks any info would help !

Re: honda civic 1997 lx wont start . eld problem?

Battery sounds run down, alternator probably isn't charging.
You shouldn't need an ELD.
How many other codes are there?

See if fuse #15 is blown.

Check out this bulletin: http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq/misc/...%2315_fuse.pdf

I checked fuse 15 and it looks like there is burnt signs on it . so the eld is not the culprit?

Can you identify a blown fuse?
(Not just oxidized and brownish on the blades, but blown)

If the fuse is blown, the alternator cannot charge, and your battery runs down.
And it can set a pile of codes because a bunch of other stuff needs that same fuse too. It may or may not set some of the possible codes, not all items are tested at all times.

The bulletin tells about one known and likely cause of this fuse blowing and how to fix it.

Read the bulletin. Fuse 15 supplies power to several important items, the ELD is just one of them.

Doesn't matter. If it has been run down, it needs charged back up and tested.

Not if you do everything correctly.

If you do something wrong you can screw a lot of stuff up, maybe even disable both of the cars.

See how quickly that fuse blows again.

Is the alternator working now?

Voltage check?

Headlights bright?

Or did it blow the fuse again already?

If you don't find and fix what causes the fuse to blow, it is very likely to happen again very soon.

I read the tsb about the problem with wireharnes making contact with the intake manifold bracket . How do you fix that? It doesnt seem to be ripped or broken .

All it takes is a pinhole rubbed through a wire insulation and touching grounded metal. Sometimes these are damn near invisible.

ANY of the 20 wires (or whatever #) in that bundle can be the problem.

The bulletin explains the repair.

Going to make sure to check those wires thoroughly in the morning .i forgot to mention that all these electrical problems started happening when i changed out the o2 sensors. The cable of the one in the bottom is hanging not tie wrapped

Might just be coincidence, or maybe the blown fuse caused O2 sensor codes (both sensors also share that same fuse).

As long as nothing has damaged the dangling wire, I doubt it could cause the fuse to blow.
