car audio trouble...
I'm trying to hook up an old stereo of mine which is a Kenwood touchscreen (KVT-911DVD) and I'm having some trouble.
The stereo consists of the display unit and a separate receiver, or what I've heard called its "brain," and, of course, a bunch of wires.
My problem is that I can't seem to get the display to power up.
I'm sure that the "brain" is powering up because I can hear it kick on when I plug the harness into it. And I've done this numerous times to be sure. On top of that, when I turn the key to (II) I have heard static coming through the speakers.
The display unit has it's own separate little harness which consists of 5 wires: ignition (red), battery wire (yellow), ground (black), dimmer (orange), parking sensor (green). I don't plan on connecting the last two if they aren't necessary. Other than that, I may be mistaken here but there is an optical cable, some audio cables, and an MZ bus cable which all connect to the "brain."
I haven't been able to get the display unit to power up at all, though I have seen a light come on. I have also tried hitting the reset button on the display unit to no avail. I've checked all the fuses I can see and think of and they all look good. I'm concerned that I may have screwed up the wiring somehow.
Any advice before I add more details?

this is the harness with only the speaker wires connected

this are the remaining wires

these are the remaining wires from the "brain," excluding the speaker wires which are connected in the first picture

These two wires come from the "brain," and I'm not sure what to do with them. I thought the "P. CONT" (blue/white) wire was supposed to get connected. In the manual for the stereo, it says: "When using the optional power amplifier, connect to its power control terminal." I have no idea what that means.

this is the smaller harness for the display unit

this is another pic of the display unit harness showing the fuse on the ignition wire

Re: car audio trouble...
I am mostly confused about what to do with the blue and black wires in the first picture.
I realize the black is supposed to be a ground, but it is very short. I imagined that there was already a ground made through the factory harness and so I assumed I could connect the ground from the small harness of the display unit to this. And, at one point, I had spliced all 3 ground wires together. Is this wrong?
Eventually, tried to ground all 3 separately, though to the same bolt, and I still can't get the display to work. Though, it must be getting some kind of power because two of the lights flicker when I try holding the reset button.

Re: car audio trouble...
Have you tried hooking up the parking sensor wire? I believe it has to be connected to something to work. There are ways to bypass it, but it may require a ground or power to function at all.
