96 honda civic radio install issue
96 honda civic radio install issue
hey folks!
aftermarket radio install issue here. factory radio in my 96 honda civic crapped out(well not completely, but volume would go "up" when you turned it "down" and vice versa, so it was a major pain). looked to do cheapest, within reason, option to have ipod/iphone hookup(previously had a mp3yourcar.com module hooked up to factory radio, but cord became frayed, so dumping that). ended up doing a kenwood KDC-MP145 cd radio with aux input on front. works rather nicely i must say!
i hooked all wires up from kenwood harness to a metra turbowire 70-1720(specific to honda's) and there were three wires left on kenwood harness(labeled as such: power control/motor antenna control(blue/white), mute control(brown), and not used(blue). don't think i need any of these. thoughts?
metra harness had two left over(labeled as such: power antenna(blue) and dimmer(orange/white). do i need these hooked up? this civic does not have a power antenna, it has the "pull out yourself" variety along driver door frame.
my issue is this: now, after install of kenwood radio, door light does not illuminate when the door is open. what am i missing to make this function work? everything else is working "a ok".
any help would be greatly appreciated!
cheers!

Re: 96 honda civic radio install issue
You do not need to hook up the power antenna wire or any of the other ones you mentioned all you need is speaker wires, power, key power and ground to make the deck work. The door light is most likely corrosion on the door pin or you blew a fuse when hooking up the deck. Check the fuse panel for that. All wires not being used you cap off with either black tape or shink tube.
Re: 96 honda civic radio install issue
door light(which is right above rear view in this model) still works if you put it in the "on" position, but doesn't automatically come on(in the middle position on switch) when door is open. it worked previously. like right before i swapped radios. so i feel like i am missing something. honda radio had another harness into it, labeled on the radio as "16p connector security". thoughts?

Re: 96 honda civic radio install issue
its the door pin not grounding the fact that it stopped just after you put the deck in is a coincidence bu the 2 are totally unrelated. Remove the screw for the door pin, clean the screw and the metal then put it back on with a little dielectric grease or vaseline.
