HX Emission System

I have a stock '97 HX (D16y5) that is in need of an emissions system flush (the EGR valve gets clogged all the time, presumably with carbon deposits). I'm considering simply replacing the entire intake manifold with a VTECH manifold from a D16y8.

Question - will this intake manifold replacement address my emissions system clogging woes or are there other portions of my EGR system that will need to be cleaned as well?

Thanks in advance....

Re: HX Emission System

No it will not, run seafoam through the vac system (be prepared it will look like the engine has blown a major gasket once you restart it) then run some through the fuel system, excess carbon is a sign of improper burn in the engine I would be looking at the cause of that. Seafoam is a great way to get rid of carbon buildup.

Re: HX Emission System

I don't recommend Seafoam... but it's up to you. I've heard so much good about it but there is lots of bad that comes along with it too. Replacing the intake manifold MAY fix the problem, but you might have to replace the EGR tube (if the new one doesn't come with it). Clean the EGR passage as well that's on the intake manifold itself. You shouldnt have problems after that. I bet you the plug is in the port plenum not the valve itself. So check all that before you replace the IM.
