Need some Battery Ideas
My battery is starting to die out. Its about 6 years old and Im running an amp off it so its on its last leg. I have a 2000 civic so I need some ideas of what to buy for a new battery. I wanted to go for a higher capacity battery, just one that will work better with current draw from an amp and other accessories. I know there are alot of guru's out there that know more about batteries than me so I figured I'd ask some opinions on this topic. Thanks for any ideas

Re: Need some Battery Ideas
you can fit in almost any battery if you remove the stock battery tray and cover. then you need a bigger battery tie down to secure it from the top. most place sell aftermarket tie downs. just look for batteries with alot of CCA. stock is around 420 i think, try and find one around 800 that will fit.

Hmm ok that make sense. The only thing is, the battery in my civic sits near the firewall like in this picture:

I dont even know if i can fit a bigger battery in that area

ah okay you may be stuck with group51 then. the honda dealer now has interstate 500cca grp51 you can use. its better than stock but same size. other than that, you could try to find different technology battery but it will be much more expensive. im pretty sure the old civics still used grp51 but maybe double check the old battery.
Re: Need some Battery Ideas
well i had the same problem where my light would dim when i bump the radio then
if my car doesnt turn over after the 5th crank then the batttery died out
lesson learn on a 0 degree one night my battery didnt work i was stranded.
but anyway i got good year batteries for 75 buck and i bump my radio without running the car for hours then i tend to leave the cabin light on at some time
still the battery stayed strong so u know a good brand battery would work just fine

Re: Need some Battery Ideas
Optima Yellowtop D51 or D51R
and call it a done deal.
It's about $150 a pop and will last you 8+ years
Even if you drain it, a quick recharge and it's good to go again.
Deep cycles can handle constant draining.
As per the light dimming, A $25 capacitor will be a good investment for your audio system.
General rule of thumb for caps are 1 farad per 1000watts
If you're running a heavy load on your car audio, I would probably look into replacing, or getting your alternator rewound

Re: Need some Battery Ideas
I have about 300watts RMS running in my system too, I didnt even put a cap and my halogens dimmed
A cap would be beneficial...
But I just bought HIDs which run on ballasts that provide constant power to the headlights, and Bam! no more dimming
I didn't install a cap, though I will in the future as I upgrade my system
