HU Replacement location

I have a 97 EX Coupe with the stock keyless entry system that is tied into the radio. I'm having trouble living without AUX IN so I'm thinking of putting in my old HU from my other car which is a semi decent pioneer deck. So from what I've seen on the forums, the general procedure to keep the keyless entry working is to recess the old HU into the dash, get some sort of splitter for the wires to keep it powered, and plug in the new HU with some sort of mounting kit to compensate for the size difference. What I'm wondering is, my system is the one where the CD player is located separate from the HU down by the cup holders. If I do the HU swap, will that simply become decoration? Is there anything else I could do with that space? What if I put my pioneer deck where the CD player is and just leave the stock HU, or maybe the wires won't be long enough... anyway, I just wanna use the space to the best of my ability and not have it look totally silly... any advice? Thanks!

Re: HU Replacement location

yeah for your year, you need to keep the factory deck plugged in for keyless entry to work. i think with an aftermarket alarm tho, it wont matter. so it may be better to just get the alarm.

For an alarm with keyless entry I am going to say around 300 installed with price of alarm. I would also look at alpines for your head units if you decide to go with aftermarket after the alarm install. Where are you located?
