Future Alpine set-up

Hey all new to the forums, have a 2000 Honda Civic SI, looking into Alpine..blah blah

Let's get straight to the point...

I have about over 1200 bucks to spend on a complete Alpine set-up..

I'm looking into:

10 inch type r subs
Amps
Bassworx sub enclosures
Midrange tweeter speakers

I just don't have a clue what kind of amps I need to get...I just want a loud system that has a quality sound. The sound I get now isn't clear and isn't loud enough....I want something blasting lol

Also, what's the main difference between buying 10's and 12's (subs)...which one is the better option in my case...a friend who mods cars told me the 10's will hit better...I don't know much about this stuff, so I don't quite understand where he's coming from when he said that

Thanks

Oh by the way, my current head unit is a Sony Xplod unit, the features are: bass, treble, fader, sub and middle I think?

I don't think it's a very good unit, being that it is sony and all

Here's a pic

Re: Future Alpine set-up

I would get the Alpine PDX-5 5 channel amp. That's enough power to run your front and rear speakers as well as a sub. I would recommend getting one sub because it's produces enough lows. It really depends on what you're trying to accomplish. I had one 12 in my old Civic and it was more than enough. I recommend 10's because they're good for all types of music. It produces nice tight bass and 12's produces really low loose bass.
The PDX-5 puts out huge power while taking very little space. I'm planning on getting one and installing it in my '04 Civic in the spare tire storage area. I'm planning on upgrading my system to an all Alpine set up consisting of Type-R 6.5 components in the doors and 6x9 in the rear deck and hooking up my 10' sub that's in a sealed enclosure.

I would recommend getting rid of the headunit first for a new Alpine one. The CDA-9880's are very nice looking, produce a lot of clean sound, and are relatively cheap. I would recommend staying away from the pdx as they are expensive, good, but expensive. Plus without knowing much about this stuff, you may have some problems hooking up a door speaker amp as it consists of running several more wires. If you just want one sub for clean bass I would look into getting a JL W3 with an Alpine mono channel amp to match the sub. I would replace you door speakers with pioneers for decent sound and a good price, or get the infinity speakers for better sound but higher price.
