Hello. I have two bad front wheel bearings that I would like to change and press myself. I know a hydraulic press is needed to do this job and I was wondering about the tons needed to do this. Would a 6 ton press be sufficient for this job? I found one on ebay for $120. Is it worth it to do myself or would it be better just to take it to a local shop to have them press the bearings? I'd like to know that it was done right. Any ideas on the cost for a local shop to press the bearings? Thanks.

Re: 199

pressing in two bearings shouldn't be more than an hours labour.

^ I'm always suspicious of harbor freight, though I guess most of our tools are made in China anyway. 6-tons is plenty, and replacing the bearings is a very simple job. It's good to buy the tool and have it yourself, as it will pay for itself the next time you go to use it (either on yours or someone elses car).
