Rear Creaking Noise
Hello everyone!
I recently purchased a '96 Honda Civic Hatch and I am going to do an entire revamp of all of the old components. My first order of business will be my brakes, rotors, drums, etc.
I'm posting this because there seems to be a creaking noise coming from the back of the car. When driving it almost sounds like a little kid is bouncing up and down on the rear seats. The sound can also be heard when going over bumps, so I have been taking it easy and making sure to decelerate.
I read a thread this morning which was similar to the issue I am having from about 4 years back, but the thread has since gone silent. According to that thread I should replace my ball joints and disks. Anyone else had this problem? What'd you do to fix it?

Re: Rear Creaking Noise
I was never good with noises. Always seems to come down to troubleshooting.
You appear to be on the right track starting with the ball joints and disks. If that doesn't work, or changes the sound, reassess.
Sounds are just too hard to determine unless they get especially bad at certain points or come along with a performance issue.
But I would love to know if anyone has a strategy for odd sound identification.

Check the trailing arm bushing. Watch from 14:30 in this video (I personally wouldn't following his guide for replacing it, though, and just hammered out the old and hammered in a new unit, in my 99 SiR):
Also, there are simple tests you can do to check ball joints and tie-rod ends:
