Annoying Mistake on shock/spring install

after installing first shock/spring I noticed something was different
the shock rod did not stop when lowering that side of vehicle...my guess is I forgot a washer but did not receive one nor had any with the kit...without using spring compressor its a pain...anyone have an idea how to approach this besides redoing it?

Usually you have to strip all the needed pieces from the original and transfer them all to the new one.
