2009 Civic not cranking
2009 Civic not cranking
My 2009 Civic with 85,000 miles automatic transmission has developed a new problem where it won't crank at times (especially when my wife is driving it). Battery is less than four years old, original starter, North Carolina car (no rust or corrosion), garage kept all it's life (owned since new). Turn the key and the lights come on but will not start. Seems to do it after it has been off for several hours. I have searched the forums but never can find a resolution. I have read people mention some issues with the alarm immobilizer but I never see any information on how they fixed it.

Turn the key and the lights come on but will not start.
Relay click?
Clunk? Where does the clunk come from?
Starter clunk but no cranking?
If you repeatedly twist the key, does it eventually work correctly as though nothing was ever wrong?
Do you need an easy place to test (for 12v+ crank signal to the solenoid) with a test light or voltmeter?
Many do end up needing the starter replaced.
Re: 2009 Civic not cranking
This morning I got in the car and it cranked very slowly so I thought it was the battery. I put a new one in just now and it cranks a little but will not start. Sounds like the starter is binding with the flywheel. Will be replacing the starter this weekend. BTW whenever I try to start it there is some cranking but very slowly.
