timing idle problem

timing idle problem

hi, i have a 2000 honda civic vp just installled a distributor in it and
cant get it to time,, spiking up down low idle in park turned distributor as far down as the slots allow,, when air is on it seems to even out but without spikes like crazy.. took it to garage they couldnt get it timed eather! origionaly found a a bad icm replaced it and couldnt get the idle set
so purchased the new distrib.. cant get it to set eather. any help would be deeply appreciated

Jumper the SCS connector to put timing control into base mode.

did the jumper,, set no 1 piston to top position turned dist to16% tdc ,, still out of time
anything else that could cause this? ditributor is good.

Have you checked the wires and plugs? My daughter's 97 has a dead cylinder (not ignition related in her case) and it displays symptoms like that -- runs smooth under partial throttle (which turning on the AC provides), idles poorly.

Just a shot in the dark.

Hooking up a scanner will tell you where the timing is at.

Wait a sec....You aren't using a timing light?


How did the original distributor get timed?
Crummy reman dist, try again?
