00 civic thinks key is always in ignition
00 civic thinks key is always in ignition
so basically what the title says is my problem.
Whenever I open my door I get that annoying "beep beep beep" when the key is left in the ignition. However my key is NOT in the ignition. This didn't just start randomly, I'm pretty sure I broke something trying to fix another issue, or most likely just didn't put something back correctly.
My ignition key tumbler was wearing out and hard to turn so i replaced it. However there is this spring loaded mechanism where the lock cylinder goes and I thought i put everything back together correctly, but i guess i didn't.
Please help me out, I want to be able to use my keyless entry remote again.
Let me know if you need pictures or more details, I did a million searches for this issue but couldn't find anything.

It is either a switch attached to the body of the column lock, or it is a microswitch in the ring around the cylinder.
(I can't remember what your column lock is like, it's been years since I took one apart.
I know what newer stuff looks like though. LOL.)
Diagram says blu/wht wires go to the key reminder switch.
Go for it!

I'd say to revisit what you did. Something isn't right.

When i removed everything I didn't remove any cables or anything electric, just the lock cylinder ( part where you insert the key ), not the lock cylinder housing. so im sure its just a part isnt making contact somewhere.
kinda like what this guy does here

except he has an older civic so he didn't have to deal with the spring loaded mechanism im talking about.
any step by step solutions would be extremely appreciated.
edit: also if there is a quick way to just disable this feature i would accept that.
by feature i mean the sensor or whatever it is that lets the car know my key is in the car, that way I will regain the use of my keyless entry remote. is there some wire i can just unplug that won't mess with anything else?
and I don't wanna just disconnect the speaker that makes the beeping sound, that doesn't fix my issue.
edit edit: ezone can you link me the diagram your looking at? it might help me out.

Re: 00 civic thinks key is always in ignition
Like I said, it's been forever since I had one of those apart. I'm dealing with much newer versions of the locks these days. I don't have any diagrams or info on this one to post here for you, sorry.
Follow the pair of blue/white wires to its switch, that should be the culprit. The switch is stuck with its contacts CLOSED in order to keep the beeper on (or a wire got pinched in the column clamp and got grounded?)

I replied before I saw any of your edits.
Cut the wires? No, fix it right. Figure out what really happened and do it right.
It's gotta be something simple, right?
Sorry man, I'm looking at factory wiring diagrams and cannot hotlink to them, and you'd have to have a subscription to see them.

I check this out today or tomorrow if I can't get to it today and keep you updated.
you've been super helpful so far, just wanted to thank you.
I'll most likely have to disassemble my whole steering column to figure this out
Re: 00 civic thinks key is always in ignition
did you ever solve this problem? I have the same thing going on after I installed new lock cylinder
Thanks
