AC/heat fan only works on 3 and 4

Hi all!

New user to the forums here... great info!

I have a '97 Civic EX four door. Great little car that I got from a friend who babied it through its first 130k miles. Now at 150k.

The AC/heat fan recently got wonky on me. It does not blow on 1 and 2, but still works fine on 3 and 4.

Any ideas? Thanks!

You need to replace the blower resistor.

Open the glove box, empty it and push in the little rubber stoppers so that it drops all the way open.

Inside there will be a little panel with 2 or 3 bolts holding it on to the top of the blower. Disonnect it, unbolt and replace it with a new one. About 25 bucks, put it back together and bask in the cool air.

Simple!

I also have a 97 civic ex whose blower wasn't working on high speed(4th setting) and then quit altogether. Replaced the blower motor and all I had working was the highest setting. BTW the motor I replace was totally gone. I then remove the blower motor resistor and replace it which resulted in all speeds working as they should. However I detect a slight burned/electrical odor when the blower is running on any speed. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? megapossum
