00 ex and 00 dx ???sssss
whats up fellas got a couple ???sss new to hondas but neways i have a 00 civic ex coupe d16y8 auto tranny motor is blown heads bad and block bought it that way i just picked up a 00 civic dx hatchback d16y7 manual tranny car is totalled still runs and drives great but my plan is to take the motor+tranny out of the hatch and put it in the coupe i was told i need to change the harness and ecm but if any one knows anything i have to do please please help me out thanks
Re: 00 ex and 00 dx ???sssss
5 spd swap will require you to add the clutch reservoir and clutch pedals bypass the neutral safety switch and wire in the reverse sensor, the d16y7 is non vtec so you will be losing power but so long as you have the obd2 ecms from both cars they are almost plug and play with each other the difference being that the d16y7 does not have the vtec. The vtec ecm will not run the d16y7 properly it will have incorrect fuel curves and other issues. What you can do is put the d16y8 head on the d16y7 block and the rest then is plug and play for wiring as you can use the d16y8 ecm. However keep in mind that many who have done this have had issues with the bottom ends giving out as the bottom end is not as strong as the d16y8 bottom end. If you are not bagging on the motor every chance you get then you should be fine using the d16y7 bottom end, and it will give you a slight hp increase to about 135 hp over the 130 you currently have with that engine.
Re: 00 ex and 00 dx ???sssss
im not really trying to get horsepower right now just daily driver so to put the whole y7 set up motor tranny linkage wire harness and ecm in the coupe would be a pain in the ***? or could it be done in a weekend because i tried to fix the hatch and im not liking the way its coming out so im just about to put the y7 set up in the coupe but lemme know thanks
Re: 00 ex and 00 dx ???sssss
it can be done over a weekend, if I remember correctly there should not be any new wiring as you are going in the reverse that most ppl do its just that you will not be plugging in the vtec controller. You will need to swap computers though as the vtec ecm will not run the y7 properly.
