I was driving this car home on the interstate. Got back into the town I live in and the RPMs started to jump up and down. The engine did not rev, it was just the guage. I made it back to house barely and parked it. A few days later I went out and started her up and it seemed fine for a minute. But then it started to happen again, but this time the check engine light came on and all of the lights, inside and out, stated to dim in and out again. Any suggestions as to what this could be? Thanks

so youre saying just the rpm needle was moving, but engine was fine? check battery connections, maybe one is loose. or bad battery or alternator. get the engine light checked too at the auto store.

Yes that is what I meant. The engine was fine but the gauges and the lights were going up and and dimming up and down. Thanks for your suggestion I will try that today.
