Good car to look into? How do I know since these are sporty civics that the previous owner didn't drive the **** out of it? Even assuming the car is stock...

There's never going to be any sort of guarantee that an si wasn't beat to hell by the previous owner, but looking for a stock one is somewhat of a start. I think the best that you can hope for is that the car was maintained well while it was being beat up on.. Have a mechanic look at the one you're thinking about buying and let them tell you if it shows symptoms of not being taken care of.

That being said I just drove an em1 with i/h/e (some other mods also) and that car was a blast to drive. I mean I beat the hell out of it and it was just... fun.

GL with the search man, those cars are import classics for a reason.

Re: 1999-2000 civic si's

The other option would be to get a Civic EX. You lose the 33 Hp and you would have to work the suspension a bit, but the car would be less money up front and likely not driven as hard. I just got a 2000 EX and am in the process of doing just that. Checking on the internet it will cost me well under $2,000.00 to have a much better suspension than any stock Si (and that includes new 15" tires, wheels, cold air intake, short shifter, 1.5" lower shocks & coils, strut tower brace front & rear, 19mm rear sway bar and a rear spoiler). The axle back exhaust will take it slightly over $2,000.00... I'll end up with a reliable daily driver that's a blast to take thru the twisties...
