no more grilles

Hi you might remember this thread: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/2...han-150-a.html

I got thoroughly roasted about the grilles that were protecting the subs. I now have alpine typeR 10" subs and I just threw in a new alpine 4 channel amp to replace the second-hand kenwood one I was using. I also re-covered the sub boxes, in red this time. Wal-mart only had a meter and a half of black felt. I think the red looks better anyway.

Here is how it went down.

My old subs were getting kind of ratty, the grill on the right had come loose and was rattling like crazy, the sub on the left had the dustcap blown off. Not good at all, it wouldn't do.

I went out and bought two 10" type R subs (alpine) notice the difference in size between the clarion on the right and the typeR on the left. I pulled everything out of the trunk, and stripped down the sub boxes, because the screws that mounted the grills had wrecked the felt on the boxes.

After stripping the boxes, I went to work re-felting them. To do this, I used "stencil adhesive" I'm not sure what it is actually for, but it works good for gluing felt to MDF. I started by spraying the front with glue (the glue comes in a spray can) I then started at on corner of the face and pressed the felt along the whole front of the box. I stretched the crap out of it to get it around the corners. Then I stapled the felt to the back of the box, then trimmed the felt. I cut the sub hole out like a pie, then stapled each triangle to the inside of the box. I bolted the box into the trunk and slammed in the sub, making sure I had it wired properly. I did the same with the other box, and I also re-felted the bottom piece that the amps are mounted to.

I slapped in an alpine battery post as well, and got rid of my sirius unit in favor of the one that plugs into the deck. I also bought a new deck a while back, a clarion one that changes to any color. It matched the rest of the car. I also took out the dumb led lights in the trunk. They hung down and were very unsightly.

Anyway it looks pimp now ( I think) let me know if you like it. All the pics were taken with my cellphone, so thy don't look that great. Sorry. I'll get some good pics with the canon tomorrow.
