After 2 weeks of being lazy, i have finally finished my fiberglass sub enclosure and amp rack. it, by no means, has a show quality finish, and it looks kinda shitty, but its functional..
it was my first time.. and i didnt wanna finish it with cloth because it woulda been waaaaaaay too ****ing hard to cover the amp rack with fleece..

i used the DIY.. taped off my trunk, layed down fiberglass resin and fiberglass mat to form the mold. the sub enclodure is fleeced and the amp rack, well, yea.. i used prolly the 2 thing i shouldnt have used to mold it: styrofoam and duct tape
when i found out what fiberglass resin did to styrofoam and duct tape (****en eats styrofoam and distorts duct tape like mad), i fleeced whatever i could and layed down masking tape on whatever i couldnt, then layed down more fiberglass resin and fiberglass mat. after i got something that i could work with, i used wood filler and later on body filler to fill in holes and stuff.. also found out that using an electric sander sucked on body filler and that sanding by hand was a **** ton better. that amp rack is still strong enough to stand on
just thinking about it, playdoh prolly woulda worked better..

those things looks good. if the curves and stuff are a bit more uniform, it would have been very nice.
either way, i wouldn't mind having those in my car.

looks good for a first time job.... i think u've motivated me to build a fibreglass amp rack.... from what it seems like, it doesn't look that hard....
it would look a lot better if you fleeced both the amp rack and sub box....imo.

You can overlap fiberglass sheets it just takes more gelcoating and sanding. And remember to wear a respirator and suit, sanding fiberglass is a nasty job!
Sense everyone is posting pics. This one is from 18 months ago. It is of my old 97. It is the same box/sub/amp that is in my 99...

Nice 5 year old thread revive.
I formed mine out of spray foam that I carved, sanded then laid fiberglass over. It turned out great, but after reading the old posts in this thread I like the really idea of a false floor. I miss my trunk..

false floor is what my current setup is.. well, gonna be, once I stop being lazy.. If you wanna see my current setup, look at the "2001-2003 post your ride" thread..
Oh, and it ended up like that instead of spending a lot of time on it because I did that job while on a short leave period (military leave, i.e. paid vacation)
