Anything wrong with running 8ga as speaker wire for my sub...hehe

ive got some extra wire i just took out...ive got 4 ga runnin to a distributor runing about 2 ft of an 8ga wire and ive got alot of 8 ga wire so anything wrong with running 8ga wire from the amp to the sub

Hey i posted another topic about my amp getting hot...
My friend is trying to tell me that running 4ga from the battery to a distributor and from the distributor to the amp im running 8ga wire.

He says thats why my amp is getting so hot because theres too much power going to the amp and the amp is unable to feed out because i dont have several amps or more than one sub. So i said my amp wouldn't be getting hotter if i had another sub. he said thats a start

Is this correct?

OK, first off, there is nothing wrong with running 8AWG wire to your speakers. It is not necessary and the tiny performance incrase will NOT be detectable. I know that, now YOU know that, but you can tell your friends anything you want when showin off your system, lol.

Second, the amp heats up because of its internal resistance. The more current that your amp has to deliver, the hotter it will get. It's not a linear relationship (topic: effeciency) but for your purposes more subs will ake the amp work harder. If your 8AWG power wire from the distribution block gets warm, AT ALL, I would recommend upgarding it to 4AWG. If there is no temp difference from when the amp is ON or OFF, it is just fine. JUST BE SURE THAT YOU GROUND WIRE IS ATLEAST THE SAME AWG AS YOUR POWER WIRE!!
