Sound...what to get?

Hey,

Everything I have is stock right now. I have an 02' Civic Sedan EX. I would like to get 2 12" subs and change the speakers. I have no clue of what to get. I would also like to get a head unit. What do you all suggest?

I would like to spend maybe about 400 on the subs. Another 300-400 on speakers and whatever on the head unit. Any help is appreciated. I was looking at a Pioneer head unit Mp3/CD player. It was like $300. What do you think?

if you want loud, id suggest lookign into earthquake or rockford.

at best buy, you can get the rockford component set for $89 if you got a friend there who can get you the company discount.

earthquake amplifiers cna be had for dirt cheap on ebay. $120 for an 85x2 amp for your fronts, and maybe $200 for a 500 watt amp for subwoofers.

you can get entry level earthquake woofers for $100 each at a shop, or you cna get teh upper models for that much online. the SPL model for earthquake is *****, and the magma line is their top end line, only fits yrou budget buying on ebay.

but if your looking for loud, and sounds great, at a decent price, your looking at rockford and earthquake.

it helps that the earthquake component sets are more or less unblowable, but your only gonna be able to fit the 5" component set in your doors.....

you can fit bigger than 5" componets in your doors, you just gotta do a little work. I have Diamond Audio Hex Componets in my car, and those things run DEEP. haha, i maybe have 1/12" clearance between my window when it's all the way down and the speaker magnet, but it works, and it doesn't hit any part of the window for sure, it's tighter than a new convict's butt cheeks

hey grim, im a fan of yrou install, very well documented.

but read my post. I said that in teh earthquake set, all yoru gonna fit is a 5"er.

theres no way to get the 6" earthquake midwoofer in teh door and have all teh clipse pop back in. you need a 1 inch spacer as it is with the 5" speaker, and your left with a little over a quarter of an inch between teh megnet and the window.

sp you see, you actually CANT fit a larger earthquake component set than the focus 5.25 inch set. not while keeping the door panel on....

Haha. I never heard that expression before.

Hey guys,
Thanks for the quick responses. If you couldn't tell I'm a total noob to all this stuff. This is my first car... My older brother used to work in like a place that did car audio so he will help me with the install. Thanks for the suggestions as to what to get. What do you think is a good amount of watts RMS for each of the pieces?

Also any good headunits you can recommend?

Thanks for the help all ready look forward to reading more.

That's cause i was just trying to think of a phrase that would be funny, haha.

As far as what you should run, depends on what you buy.
But if you get a decent set of comps, for approx-you pay: $300 (retail approx. $500) you should be running approx. 125-175 watts rms, or maybe more. for higher end comps, they can handle getting more power np. i'm running 250 wrms to my comps, and they're perfectly happy with it
