hey gusy i was drivign around when all of a sudden my sub stopped workign. the amp is on and i can hear some high's but there is no bass. all the connections with the amp and the box look good. is there anything that you think might be wrong?
is your amp wired to both your comps and subs?? or do you have 2 amps, your comps wired to one, and your subs wired to the other? if you have your subs wired to a different amp, then the amp powering your subs probably overheated. let it cool down and try it again later.
If they're wired to the same amp, make sure that all your wires are still connected and everything is working properly.
Normally when a sub would be broken, it either smells really bad, sounds really bad, or sounds pretty distorted.

most probably a problem with the amp, see if you can swap it out with another amp to try the sub with something else.
or get a DMM digital multi-meter or something like that, it measures voltage and other various things...

You could have had an RCA disconnect from the back of the headunit, or one of the wires inside the box could have disconnected.....you could have a broken connection in the amp. Another possibility is a problem with your sub....I had that happen to both of my old W3's, it just stopped playing....the voicecoils were cooked, but there was never any smell or anything.

thanks for all the help but the sub is blown. my friend gave it to me like 2 years ago and he had it for like 5 so i think it was used well. I took out the sub and put 6 x9 in with the gain down and the 6x9 worked. so the sub is gone. well thanks for the help I'm looking into getting the Adire audio shiva in a sealed box. probably in a month or so. anyone in so cal have one? can i hear it sometime?

you probably blew the sub. It happened to me a few days ago. I had a cheap jbl 10 with a 150 watt amp that wasn't even turned up a whole lot cuz i didn't want a lot of bass. I was jammin to 50 cent on the radio and then it made a wierd thump and just quit workin. Oh well, I didn't really care. Just get a new sub.
