ROCKFORD or JL?
two rockford 2nd to top of the line woofers versus three bottom of the barrel JL woofers?
in SPL the rockfords will DESTROY them.
and i dont think you are willing to give up the trunkspace to make the jl's sound better. And if you choke those w0's, the rockfords will even sound better.
so yeah, id say the 2 rockfords will outperform the three jl's

Woah, you guys are going by name brand on the JL. He said 3 8" W0s!!! which is JLs bottom of the line woofer...against RFs top of the line punch series woofer??!!??
I have heard 12 inch W0s in a car and it wasn't that memorible, and I don't thing 3 8"s will sound that much louder or better.
Probably, but if you step up to the HX2 Power series and port it in the right size enclosure it will really POUND like hell! Damn, I sound like a Rockford salesman
Check these subs out too: LA Audio
These subs are prolly pretty close in quality and SPL capabilities as the RF HX2 subs.

Like I said, I have heard two 12" W0s in a truck and I was not impress with the output at all.

Installed by my friend and his friend (who I think used to install audio at a chain store like BB or CC) in his truck cabin with a Lanzer amp (100watts times 2, i think). The bass output was ok.

I dont think thats true, RF has more SPL champions and one of the top 3 SQ competitors in the world, Will Adcock. I dont know how RF got such a bad name. personally i have used a Punch hx2 12 to do a 150 (mic in the foot well with an amp per coil) and was very happy when i transfered it to a sealed 1.25 cubic foot box for daily use. The Punch HX2 is a great all around speaker.
i also dont know how you think the three w0's at 125 watts each will outperform the hx2's at 500 watts each. the RF has more excursion, a larger coil, a larger magnet, handles more power and if you put a pair in a ported box it will be the same size and give him more output than the 3 JL's.

I was going to say this, but I knew that Alex would more accurately state this point

Last time I checked the letters J and L are not the definition of what sound should be. Once again you are judging a sub by its brand name.
The W0s are decent subs, but they just don't seem like they can get that loud.
I beg to differ.. Ive had 3 rockford 12's HX2's for about 2 years... Now I have ONE JL W7 13.5 Inch... SPL is twice as hard as the rockfords with one speaker... the 13 INCH W7 is supposed to preform like 6 12 inch subs... SO IVE HAD BOTH BRANDS AND JL is alot better ... for sound and spl... and BTW.. rockfords are KNOWN to continuously BLOW... i blew mine about 5 times.. all replaced for free.

Man, some of yall are really having a hard time understanding this concept...were not talking about W7s...we are talking about W0s which are JLs lowest line being compared to one of RF's top lines
...and Chenz, aren't you the same fool that wrote this on My Gallery page about my quart tweeters, "looks like you put mini rims on the inside of ur car . LOL" and then you rated them a 4
Dude, your a crackhead!
...and I'd like to see what Rockwood tweets you are running

however, general statements dont always apply to every specific situation.
for example, in this situation, although I think I am beating a dead horse, the rockfords have teh jl's. period.
again, i want to say how much i agree with you, and how i ppersonlly (this is personally) think the 12w7 is flat out the best subwoofer money can buy. however, this is not a competition between JL and RF. id totally be with you on that debate, but here, we are arguing specific woofers.
and there is no way, given proper installs, that three 12w0's will outperform a pair of hx2's. power almost doesnt even factor into the equation. there just is-no-way!
lol interior speakers... 4- 5 1/2 kenwood Dual Mag tri-pod Excelons, and 3 pairs of Niobium Dome Tweeters 300 watts each... compared to ur MB's , your MB'S sound like some Pawn shop bought equipment. MB quart ... all your paying for is the name.
and clean sound free of alteration of the recorded sound, but hey, if your niobium dome tweeters play the way you like, then you can enjoy having no sound stage whatsoever.
the rest of us who enjoy listening to music, and not music that sounds liek its playing out of a speaker will do it our way, and let you do it your way. live and let live.

It is funny that you are calling mine Pawn shop equipment because of how they look! Last time I checked they are the former Q series (if you don't beleive me look at the back of the speakers and check and compare the product numbers), and they look exactly like the QSD tweets. Do you have something bad to say about the QSD comps too? ....last time I checked people running quarts have won tons of SQ contests, and I'll get back to you when someone wins any contest running Kenwood speaker :P Originally posted by Chenz

Lets see, I am "paying for the name" + they are "Pawn shop speakers" = makes no sense

Your telling me that I am the one only paying for the name!!! When was the last time you looked in your trunk and looked at the JL box that you prolly paid 500+ dollars for!
