tweeters in pod vs. tweeters in door panel
I don't if one would be "better" depends on what sound stage/imaging your trying to achieve. Try both out and find which is most pleasing to "your" ears, that would be my best answer. Technically speaking, a "better" sound stage is usually achieved by physically placing the tweeter as close to the mid driver as posible. Thus making it sound as if the music where all coming from one place. HTH
Something else to consider, is that by placing the tweeter in the sail panels, the distance to your ear becomes closer for the driver's side, while staying roughly equadistant (sp?) for the passenger side, causing a more pronounced time delay issue (or sound stage issues).
I am sure there are tons of articels written on this issue. Basically, you should try both locations and see which one you like better.

also in teh kickpanels they will sit lowe,r so more of yrou sound will come from yrou feet.
up high in the sail panels, your stage may sit alot higher, ideally your stage sits at hood level-ish
of course, its possible to have tweeters in kicks that sound like they are on the hood, so its really all a matter of install.

I never heard of anyone having their stage sit at "hood level-ish" and I've seen quite a few installs mind you...
If installed correctly, you shoudn't be able to tell how high or how low your stage sits.

wanttofok, are you kidding me?
a proper stage you should be able to locate EVERYTHING in position!
you should be able to hear how far the guiatarist is sitting to the left or right, how far back in relation to the other players, and your stage WILL have a height involved. if you have yoru speakers placed on the floor, which many are to enhance the imaging from left to right, oftentimes height will suffer. People couter this by mounting tweeters up high, or using a teeny bit of rear fill to help raise the stage.
but thats what it is, a STAGE. if you cnat localize a single instrument, if it sounds like all the source sound is coming from inside yoru head, that is NOT the proper way to set up a sound stage!
you ever sit in a 5.1 surround system, does it sound like everything is localized inside you? of course not! you can hear where everything is, and when!
you may have seen "quite a few installs" but if youve listened to 1000 cars, none with a proper stage, you havent heard a proper stage.
but the bottom line is, a PROPERLY installed STAGE (stage isnt always desired, ask ludlamtheory!) you most definily CAN tell stage height. as well as much, much more.

I'm with zzjkimzz, I have some Infinity components and I'm totally puzzled on how to mount the tweeters in the factory EX pods.. Please shed some light on the subject.. I'm thinking about finally installing them this weekend after them just sitting in the box forever... Do you superglue, alter the mounts, or what?
Thanks
Thanks
White Rabbit,
Could you offer some advice on the best way to mount these infinity 6000cs tweeters in the stock EX pods, or are they incompatible to the point where it would just be eaiser/less hassle to mount them in the doors by drilling?

unfortunately, i cant, because ive never installed those speakers, nor have i ever installed a tweeter in a civic sail panel. im actually completely ignorant of the way they mount up in there, which is why if you do a search on fitment, im always an absentee poster...
i cna offer avice on general speaker mounting, however, if that may help, but again, im not sure abotu the build of the qforms, so im not sure if a screw is enough to hold the speaker, or if youll need the metal clips.
but my advice is this: make sure that no matter WHAT you do, ensure there is a decent seal, so that the wave coming off the front of the speaker is as separate as possible from the wave that comes off tha back. it doesnt have to be absolutley perfect, but the better the seal, the better yoru performance.

I have installed two types of 1 " speakers into the factory sail panel:
1) Polk Ex3 (IMO a great set of budget speakers that are currently in my girl's ride)-I used crazy glue to hold them in. I made sure not to let the glue spill over to much just in case, and i knew I would, put in new speakers. I just crazy glued the edges, simple...as long as you line it up good.
2) Quart PSDs (current speakers that you can see in my "members ride's" page)- they actually have screws in the back like the stock tweeters!!! All you need is the right size screw and maybe a spacer. Even an ignoramous could install them...but the PSD woofer is another story. However, I didn't even bother to put the grills on the quarts because I don't think they will fit, but I like how it looks without it...
these are two methods that worked for me.

I've installed the Diamond Audio Hex Series in my tweeter sails. Did they bolt on? no.
haha, so i took the sails off, cut off all excessive plastic from the back of the sail and blocking the opening, then filed down the edges so that the tweet would fit. I also took the tweet, and pushed it out of it's little casing that it came in, to make it fit easier, otherwise, there would have been just far too much filing. Now though, it fits in there perfectly fine, and best of all, it looks stock. As far as the 6.5's in the door, i'm still working on that, but what i learned last night, is that you gotta pop your existing speaker out of there, then get either 1/2" MDF, or 1/4" MDF or similar, and make the same size circle, MAKE SURE THAT HOLES ARE ALREADY DRILLED FOR YOUR SPEAKER, silicone it to the door, then matchup the holes from the mount to your speaker, and viola. Also, to make certain it fits, and has enough room for excursion, take your door panel, and trim/cut off all excess plastic behind the little speaker pannel, and that should do it. Using this method, i would imagine that you could fit ANY 2-way comp set, seeing as how the Diamonds and Focal Utopias are some of the biggest ones.
