I just hooked up a mid grade power converter, it is rated with plenty of power for the PS2 I have hooked up to it. Now the problem is I am getting noise, and "tracking lines" on my screen. Its a brand new Pioneer flip out. These are the things I have checked

I checked all RCA's and replaced the PS2 cords with Monster Cable plugs
I check ground on the converter ( The noise/lines did not happen when i pugged it stright into an extension cord.
I also checked alot of little things that may cause it

are the rca's near the power supply? my guess is the power supply isnt shielded enough

this problem is very commom, i have the same thing on my tv, the problem is that there to many interference, is your inverter hookup straight to the cig lighter

I have the same setup as you (Pioneer in-dash lcd, ps2, and mid-grade inverter) and got noise/lines as well. Here's what I did to fix it...

1) Ensured noise filters were on properly (took them off to see how bad the noise would be, yup got worse and put them back on)

2) Got a better brand inverter (went from AC Delco 400watt to Jazz 500watt). This step reduced the noise by about 50%

3) Relocated my inverter away from the PS2/Video cables. Reduced noise another 10-15%

4) Hooked inverter directly to battery vs. lighter using better gauge battery wires that came w/ invertor. This also ensures your wires don't get fried as the lighter wires aren't a good gauge to handle more the 250watts max IMO. This reduced noise by another 10%.

5) Relocated my sub/amp wires away from PS2 Video cables (not Monster but stock PS2 ones). This got ride of the rest of my LCD noise issues.

Well, I hope these tips/steps help you. Keep in mind though, depending on what other amps/I.C.E./etc. you're running this may not be the exact steps to fix your noise. Just be sure to keep any high wattage wires away from the your PS2 Video cables as much as possible and keep the inverter as far away as possible as well.

Thanks for your help, but I am running my inverter stright off the battery with 10 Gauge power wire, my Inverter is under the pass side seat, and my PS2 is temp located on the pass side of the center console, with the power cables no where near the rcas for the PS2. This noise is driving me CRAZY. What do you mean by noise filters? I also am not sure if i explained that when i hooked it stright up to an extension cord it goes away. Thanks guys for all your help

I don't think it will, since that is only for Audio, I am also getting white static lines on my screen. Thanks for the help though

That is still too close, I did the same thing and it made no difference. My PS2 is under the passenger seat and my inverter is under the driver's seat. The noise filters I'm referring to are the one's that come with the Pioneer lcd, they clip onto the RCA's. What brand inverter and model do you have? I have the Xantrax Jazz 500, which has an efficiency rating of 90%.

Not sure what kind of inverter I have, I know ive run my laptop off of it and never had a problem. I know what kind of filters your talking about now...They are like black plastic pieces? Which one should i put it on the video or one of the audios? Did you get the white stactic lines on your video too? I wonder if i put it under my drivers seat if that will be enough distance. Thanks for your help, I really need it

If your power inverter isn't a good quality (AC Delco, Jensen, etc. are not good, Xantrax inverters are excellent though) one or if it's low wattage (less than 300watts) then chances are it isn't shielded too well. This will cause more video noise, so I would suggest getting a better quality inverter. As far as noise filters, don't be confused thinking they are for video, it's for your antenna and audio (if the filters did indeed come w/ your Pioneer like mine did). My audio connectors were right next to the video connector, so when I took the filters off the audio the noise increased (I still don't know why, since I thought they only helped with sound not video, I guess it still causes some interference). Yes I did get those annoying white static lines. I hope you can fix your noise issues w/ some of these tips. Sorry I don't have definitive solution for you though, good luck.

I have my ps2 hooked up and I get the same thing you do. If you can get to the back of the ps2 look and see if the rca's are setting on metal. There is a black plastic ring that cant be on metal if you want the ps2 to run correctly.

I bought a new converter, and it solved about 75% of the problem. Atleast i can handle watching it now. I learned something, and would like to pass it onto others. Even though a converter may be expensive, or look reliable, it may not be the best one for the job. I would say to buy the cheapest and see if it works, if it does'nt just return it. Thanks for all those who helped out.

So what brand inverter and rating did u end up getting? I use Xantrax, which works great for me, but it would be nice to know what other brands are good too.

I ended up getting one from Home Depot named HUSKEY. Sounds kinda stupid but so far so good. I think its rated at 300 or somewhere close to that
