Question Amp Settings / JL XR Woofers????

Hey everyone, I just got my replacement JL XR mids in the mail today after they suposedy went defective when I was listening to my original pair a month ago. The thing I forgot to tell the seller though is that they were exposed to water, OPPS, thats why I just bought some baffles for this new pair. But anyway, I am kind of parinoid about blowing out this new set of XR mids and I need some help with the amp settings. The thing is though that since I have x-overs, the only setting on the amp that seems to be operable is the level. I have a Hifonics ZX6000 by the way with an Alpine 7893 HU. The level can go 6V-0.2V and when they blew, I had the level a little more than half way, but I only think they blew cause of all the moisture they were exposed to. What is the maximum I can have my level turned up to?

dont forget teh highpass crossover

you can turn the gain up as high as you want, not playing a clipped signal (distortion) will help speaker life out a bit

So basically, to decide the right level, I just turn up the volume all the way, and then turn up the level high enough to where it sounds good and not distorted, the speakers don't get cut off with that clipping feature on my amp, and thats that?

What you want to do is turn your HU up to 28, then adjust the level untill you hear distortion/clipping, then back it down untill it's clean. That way, if the particular music you are listening to is recorded "louder" than another type of music, you will be able to turn it up more. That probably didnt make sense, but oh well. Also, with that HU you have the option of turning off the internal amplifier, do that, it'll make it run cooler and provide a stronger signal to the RCA's.

Personaly I keep my HP at 100 hz, thats just preferance and what you listen too though....if you dont listen to heavy rap then you can probably drop it lower.....

its liek an inverse relationship between gain and crossover frequency, the higher the frequency, the higher you cna gain.

so its a trade off between musicality and ***** out loud.
