wtb: subs and amp (need some advice)
i'm into hip hop with heavy bass and the stock speakers are doing nothing for me. i don't really want to upgrade my deck if i don't have to. would it sound good if i just added an amp and a sub? i just want to get that nice hard bass that you can hear thumping down the block.
anybody have any suggestions? prices and brands? i don't need anything too high end, just something with "THUMPING" power, if you know what i mean.
also, is it hard to install? does it require drilling holes through the interiors of my car?

Just about any crappy best buy setup would be fine for hip-hop. Because hip-hop is about the most crap music in terms of actual bass. They use 20 dollar wal-mart keyboards to program the bass. Brands to look for are Rockford, Pioneer and even Kenwood.
If you don't upgrade the deck then it sometimes gets hard to hook up amps and get a clean signal.
Likewise when you don't upgrade the rest of the system then the bass easily overpowers the rest of the speakers so all you get is bass and no highs/voice.

I've got a round Kicker Solo Baric w/box for sale if you're interested. If you're really interested I'd sell my other one. Both are unused.
Not much drilling into your car, but a decent amount of pulling things apart. It isn't bad though.

ugh, you want to add a amp and sub without upgrading your headunit and stock speakers? you'll only be able to hear the thumb and nothing else, dont do this half assed. speakers are cheap, look on ebay. you want a headunit with preamp outputs (to send the signal to the subs). and first off let me clear this up PIONEER IS NOT A CRAPPY BEST BUT SET UP! everything i have except my amp is pioneer and it puts out more bass and has detailed highs than most people i hear! your gonna want 3 way speakers (especially for the door speakers) to help balance the high notes and vocals when you have bass pounding from the back. best place to buy all this gear is ebay, its were i got all my stuff and i seriously saved like half if i were to buy from somewhere like crutchfield. do some research, and you'll what you want/need.

he may not WANT to upgrade the rest.
speakers aren't always cheap, not if you want any quality.
as to your setup putting out more bass and having more detailed highs than most people, you must not know very many people with high quality stereo's.
as to 3 way speakers, why? explain yourself? i have a 2 way speaker that puts out more high frequency than a pioneer 4 way speaker.
as to buying from ebay, some people like buying from bigger stores due to reliability/name/warranty issues.
again, im not trying to bring you down or insult you, i'm just trying to get you to ease up on the generalizations and explain yourself more.
I have a 2 months old Kicker 400.2 that the birth certifcate reads 453 watts RMS, that is like new and perfect for what your looking to do. It;s still in the box with all accersories and will allow you to install it with your stock speakers and head unit if you don't want to run RCA's.
I'm selling it for around 200 if interested.
Let me know,
