S10L5 Sub Enclosure (Dimensions??)

This may be somewhat complicated to answer but I'm trying to figure out some dimensions for building a box for 2 L5 solobaric 10s. I'm not looking for anything souped up or jazzy just a plain ol box. I've built boxes before so everything else besides figuring out the dimesions of the box (which my brother usually did) I can do. Does it matter if there are seperate chambers for each sub or not? Even if someone has a dimensions for just one sub, I'll make two boxes it doesn't matter. I can do simple math but the size of the cone and all that stuff throws me off. I'd appreciate it if anyone can help.

I've always built my boxes seperatly chambered, it probably does not matter this way but it's always the way I have done it. As far as the dimensions go, to find cubic feet multiply your heightXwidthXdepth (in inches) and divide that number by 1728. This will give you cubic feet. Example: 13"X12"X15"=2340 Now divide 2340 by 1728 and you get 1.354 cu.ft. If you knew what Kicker recomends for a box size you could now figure it out.

I would say put both in a separate chamber so that if one blows the other will be ok.

I would go sealed ......

L5 10" requires
Small box = 0.66 cu ft = 1140 cu in
Large Box = 1.0 cu ft = 1728 cu in

Box for 2 speakers .....
1140 * 2 = 2280 cu in
1728 * 2 = 3456 cu in

So anywhere from 2280 cu in all the way to to 3456 cu in will work.

The trunk is about 40" wide x 15.5" tall ...... towards the front of it.

Based on using 3/4" MDF I would go with a box with OUTSIDE dimensions of:
- 9" deep
- 14" tall
- 36" wide

Take out the thickness of the wood, 0.75" from each end .... so 1.5" from each dimension.

This will give you an internal volume of 3164 cu in and should fit quite nicely.

Internal space: 7.5 * 12.5 * 34.5 = 3234 cu in
Separator: 7.5 * 12.5 * 0.75 = 70 cu in
Result Airspace: 3234 - 70 = 3164 cu in

Working backwards ..... you get 0.9 cu ft per speaker ..... perfect for what they recommend.
3164 cu in = 1.831 cu ft
1.831 cu ft / 2 speakers = 0.9155 cu ft per speaker

Also since the speaker depth is just under 6" ..... 7.5" inside is more than enough room.

Good luck ... and be sure to keep all your fingers and toes.

hey man i would give those subs about 1 cube each...i have talked to many kicker reps and they said for the 10's that they recommend 1.25 cubes sealed for each sub...i will be installing my L5's with about 1 cube each in a few days so u can wait an di will let you know how they sound if u want.
