sedan speaker survey/question
i have gotten my mb quart components, and after many hours of work found there is no way to fit the woofers in w/out some serious cosmetic changes to the door. here's what i want to know.
1. if you have components, what kind do you have in there? size? complexity of install? i already ripped that little plastic ring around the speaker grille off the inside. i know i can probably fit the woofers i have now in the back deck. keep in mind i am fitting these speakers in a sedan door.
2. any recommendations? obviously they'll need to have a fairly shallow magnet, but i want some good response there too. it's so tough to search the members to see anything with a 56k...
any input is appreciated, thanx in advance.

I am not really understanding which you are refering too; the front or the back speakers? I was able to fit the quart PSD-216 in the front after the trim panel was removed and with a 1 inch spacer.

yes i am talking about the front speakers, and i have a the same speakers, psd-216. like i said i have a sedan and am having big issues with the front. room is so tight with the door i have room for maybe a .5 inch spacer at most.
what trim piece were you refering too? i don't really want to tear my door apart permanently, but i'd consider it...
you got pics?

You have to use like about an inch spacer, and maybe sand it down a lil. It will barely fit in there. The other funny thing too is that these muthaf@ckas i think are actually 7inch speakers so they do not fit in pre-made 6.5 inch spacers! So I bought a spacer from a local shop and sanded it at an angle on the inside to get the platic trim of the speaker to fit in.
The other thing you need to do is cut off the plastic ring on the inside of the door (it is a round circle of plastic the goes around your speaker). Be careful not to cut through the door, and the car will look exactly the same when all is done.
A dremel my friend, you can do all this with a dremel...best tool i have ever bought

i did rip that ring out already on the inside of the door, i guess i just gotta keep trying stuff...
these are big speakers. that plastic that holds the speaker to the magnet is being a real bicth.
did you use the mounting piece that MB gave you with the spacer too, or just the spacer?

I have the PSD 216's as well, and I have a 1" spacer that I made from MDF. I had to dremel off that ring inside the door panel too, and my panels still dont fit perfectly flush around the bottom. Once it warms up a bit I am going to dremel the metal part of the door so I can put a 1/2" spacer in, and mount the tweet coax style over the woofer. I wish we had 3 peice doors like new Jetta's so I could just make a fiberglass section and replace part of the door with it.... Oh and Fonto, I did check on the actual size of the speaker when I was doing the install....I thought it was a 7 too....turns out those crazy germans just made a weird basket design for the speaker... I hace MB Quart Q series 6.5's, the croosover is in the trunk, the tweeter is in the tweeter pod that the civic EX's comes with, and the woofer.....is in the box under my bed. I've been two two places that said that the 6.5 can't go in the door and they wouldn't do it for me. One place was Tweeters, and the other a place called Boomer McClouds. The last time i have been to either of these places was when they told me it could not be done, the next time i go to either place....will be never. This spring when it gets warm out again, i live in ny where there is snow everywhere, i'll make a 1 inch baffle and mounth them myself. For now i have the psc213 5.25 woofer in my door.
I hate lazy install shops.......

Wow, thats weird....Boomer McLoud is usually a pretty good place to go. Tweeter sucks. The place I go used to be a Boomer, but they changed the name because they didnt want to be controlled by a corporate office anymore...heh. Definately a lazy shop you got up there.......The head installer at the one here is one of the top 100 in the country....ok, this post has no point really...but im bored...so...yeah.

Yeah, the PSDs have some funky a$$ plastic parts that stick out. Also, i think that my door mya not be complety on on the very bottom corner...but i could car less...I just didn't want to forse it...but no one can tell, and it is a real small gap (less then an 1/8 inch)

My passenger side door panel doesn't completely close on the bottom either, i think mounted the right speaker a little too low, and you're right, nobody will ever notice, i completely forgot about it until you mentioned it fonto

Yup, that is right...but not the cone...it is hitting the outer portion of the speaker so it does not effect the performance of the speaker. We should do an official thread of speakers that fit out car from personal experiences (and speakers that can fit with the trim ring cut off).

that trim ring was a breeze to get off. i just grabbed it with pliers and it ripped off like nothing, it's not molded onto the door really. i don't care about the door being completely sealed, but the way i was trying it the door would not even close.
might just listen with the xplodes for now and wait till spring
