Sub Vibration?
Hey everyone, I haven't totally tweaked my amplifier yet, it is an alpine M300, but when I was listening to rap, it sounded pretty good with my JL Audio12w3. You could hear the beat nice and clear with most songs. When I put in a rock cd though, it sounded alot messier. On the low vibrations that many of my songs had, it really rattles the car and gets kind of messy sounding. It does that too with some of my rap songs, but not all. I was just curious to know what feature on amplifiers is used to fix this? I am guessing it is a universal thing with most amplifiers. Thanks!

my friend told me about this material that you can by at a local audio store and you outline your trunk with it, well just the part that opens, and that will help to get rid of some of that reverb that I keep hearing.
triplecheck that crossover. you yourself said you havent finished tuning the amplifier yet. youve solved your own problem. check the crossover! thats free, too, as opposed to $90 for a dynamat trunk kit.....
i want to address the smaller sub/rock woofer issue. Shops say this, and ive said it for as long as ive worked there. there is a difference between a shop woofer that will be going in a prefab customer box, and any subwoofer in an enclosure that has been carefully thought about, planned, built, and run.
take any standard entry level subwoofer, in a 10 and 12 inch version (truck boxes amplify this effect). 90% the time, in a prefab box, the 12 gets louder, lower. A shop doesnt cater to enthusiasts, a shop caters to the general public. Thus, as a result, there are the rumors floating that shops dont know jack, when they will know more than any of us combined. They can say "truths" that are in fact complete lies, because for THAT customer, it would absolutely be true, if not for audio in general.
thus, the TRUTH of the matter, is that subwoofer performance is ENTIRELY install related. because a shop 90% the time is not doing a "proper" install, but an install with all prefab equipment, then truths have to be bent to apply to that situation.
are you familiar with the ideal gas law? its a model for describing how much space a certain volume of air takes up given pressure and temperature. it is TOTALLY a complete lie, that does NOT REFLECT teh real world even remotely. however, it is a darn CLOSE approximation for 99% of real world situations, and thus it is a law of thermodynamics, even tho it has been proven false beond any reasonable doubt. yet it is a law.
thus, shop employees actually DO know their stuff, its just that they cater to a different breed of person. and thus you cant blame them when the truths they quote dont apply to us.
sorry to get off topic, but i wanted to clear up some things about subwoofer size and performance in relation to shops any why the rumors spread the way they do.
