Mounting depth of the Factory Pioneer?
Happy new years everyone....my questions for you experts is this: what's the maximum mounting dept allowed for 02 coupe? there's a couple of pair of speaker i'm very interested in:
kenwood kfc-6909 (mounting depth 3.32) sensitivity 93db
Pioneer ts-6996 (mounting depth 3.5) sensitivity 93db
Rockford Fosgate (mounting depth 3.06 ) <---what I have waiting to install...but may want to exchange it for one of the above
From the reviews on Sounddomain, it seems the Rockford gives pretty good bass, but the sound quality isn't that great, does sound quality equal to "sensitivity"?
the factory OEM pioneer 6x9 on the coupe seems to give pretty good bass and clear mids with a new deck...but maybe I just havn't heard what real good speakers sound like?

Just measure the distance from the speaker hole down to the trunk spring for your maximum mounting depth....and sensitivity doesnt really affect sound quality....my MB's have like an 87 dB sensitivity, and they play so much clearer than my friends Focals, with like a 91 or 92 dB sensitivity...
If you really want good sound quality, use 1/4 MDF to make mounting plates and put a round speaker in....ovals have more distortion, and dont produce as even of a sound. You can buy my Mobile ES components from me.....I already have them in custom mounting plates for the rear deck, and they sound decent for the price.

I believe the sensitivity is just a rating of the efficiency of the speaker. roughly, with teh same power, a speaker with a 93 db sensitivity will be louder than a 87 db sensitivity speaker. Will you be amping them?

no i will just run them from my deck because my amp is no longer with me and I'm dead broke now...some guy from Crutchfield replied to my questions about the comparison between my OEM pioneer 6x9 and Rockford Fosgate 3269, his words as followed:
"Thanks for your e-mail, and for shopping the Crutchfield web site.
I'll be happy to help with your question on 6 x 9s. the Rockford Fosgate
3269s are probably not as sensitive as your Pioneers and would likely
not perform as well without an amp. Plus, they will only fit your
vehicle with a custom installation-they are too high and would require a
spacer be fabricated to lift the rear deck up off the speaker.
My recommendation would be for the Kicker 02K69 6"x9" 2-Way Speakers on
our website here"
So I went and did some research on the Kicker 02k69....and it has very bad reviews on Soundomain..only 1 out of 5 for the bass response...so what's the deal?

haha..that's funny...ya..I don't trust that guy at all to be honest..first he tried to talk me into buying the kicker speaker, then suggesting that to bring out the full potential of the speaker...i should also buy this other amp...plus some other accessories...ya okay...i'm not going to clean up their stock of junk
