MP3 Player Head Opinions

Ok guys.. i'm in a decision where i need to get a decent MP3 player to replace my Sony mp450x that is a piece of crap.. i guess that's what i get for getting a first gen mp3 player.. anyways, it doesn't recognize the fact that it has a cd player in it and only plays the radio.. ic an't even get my cd out. happened once but now i hear it's a prob with a resistor that wasn't mounted right from the factory... soooooo anyways i need a new player, not sony, but a decent one that i can see clearly during the day. Let me know your opinions..

From what I've heard, the order of deck brands are as follows, in terms of sound quality:

1. Alpine
2. Kenwood
3. Pioneer
|
|
|
100. Sony

With this in mind, I have a pioneer mp3 player and it sounds awesome. The sound quality between the top three units is hard to distinguish. The pioneer I have, DEH-P940MP, has way more features than the best kenwood deck. In addition, pioneer decks have the BEST display. It's organic EL and is very bright and clear. Even going with a lower pioneer deck that plays mp3s will be good for you. The only thing with the pioneer is it takes a minute or more to access an mp3 cd the FIRST time you stick it in. After that it's fast. Kenwood only takes a few seconds to load it. Just a thought. I'm really happy with my pioneer. Excellent display, but a little pricy even after the deal I got ($540).

pioneer
I have the 740mp and it's great
and it doesn't take literally a few mins to load up the cd
only takes 10-15 seconds but after that loads instantly (few second gap between songs)
it also starts where you last left off on the cd when you turn the player off then back on
good stuff

i'm thinking the pioneer 7400.. the next one in line is the kenwood 919, but that's like a hundred bucks more! what do you guys think? should i spend the extra money? the main difference i care about is that the kenwood has 4.5v preamp outs....

go with the alpine CDA-7894

cheaper than the kenwood 919, but has everything kenwood has + more

if u aren't amping it, then get the alpine for sure... its 'high power' lol.. as high power as a non amped system can be (27W RMS x 4)

and it has 4V outs for ur sub amps

and you get alpines 'media expander' which does wonders to ripped music

Alpine makes an mp3 unit with the serial # CDA-7995. I have the non-mp3 version, the CDA 7893 and I couldn't be happier with my choice. Really looks nice, sounds great, faceplate is sturdy. I would definately go with that unit as your next one. I got mine off ebay for like $100 less than what stores sell it for, so see if you can find the mp3 alpine unit on ebay. Hope this help!

the cda-7995 is simply the NO AMP (you will need a separate amp.. all this has are preouts) version of the cda-7894 that i mentioned

oh.. and it has a flashy silver faceplate

it WILL give you better quality audio.. but unless you're going all out on everything else.. i really dont think that you'll notice

HHAAHAHAHA!! thats sadly true

this guy i know who runs 2 sony 12's from one of their "1000W" amps (that really only pushes 165 x 2W RMS (and those are the inflated sony specs), was always bragging about his BOOMING system

till he took a ride in my car with my single alpine SWR-10 powered with an alpine M300 and asked me how many 15's I had in the trunk

i guess i should also mention (to sonys credit) that the guy who sold him the subs conned him into getting a truck sized, sealed box.... WAAAYYY too small for his subs

well, the reason why i got the sony was because it was one of the first ones to come out, basically when aiwa came out with theirs... look at the rest of my components, i think i do my research.. but my two choices for a range from 200-250 is the kenwood excelon x759 or the pioneer p740mp. hmmmmmm

if you have the money and able to find one (discontinued) you should get the alpine 7878. it is the best mp3 deck out there. it has the f1 transport and this is found in their higher units. so, i have this deck and would not trade it for the crap they are putting out today.

Dont forget PS2's. My Sony Mp??? Got stolen and I was just about to get the Sony MP80. Mainly just because of the looks and because I have had nothing else but Sony. I changed now and opted for Pioneer Deh7500. They are areond the same price but hopefully you guys are right.

In stead of starting a new post I have a question. I am powering 2 MTX 10's with my Sony Amp. I was thinkin of mounting the Sony to the back of my rear seat to power my fronts, and getting a new amp for the subs. My current setup is stock fronts, Sony 6x9 rears (I know, im sorry) 2 mtx 10's powered by the "new" (hmmm) Sony 1000 watt amp. After I get the pioneer how should I go?

alright, lets make this a productive post again...

i would reccommend upgrading the front speakers soon. if you're going to amp them, then a good component or nice coaxial would be a huge improvement. those stock speakes can't take a lot of power before they crap out, so this will give you a lot more balance in your sound. while i'm sure the subs can take more power than they're geting now, you probably won't get a big volume increase. front speakers that deliver solid midbass will give you a lot fuller sound. also search to find some inexpensive ways to get more out of your speakers (improved install can make worlds of difference).

Thanks DoubleDeuce2k2,

I dont really know what Im doing when it comes to some of the more advanced installations but I know what good sound is supposed to sound like. This is my first time really getting into stereo equip, but I now have a basic idea of what I want to do. I flip flop alot because Im still learnin. I visited the JL site and thought about going all JL. I dont really want any tweeters though so Im kinna shaky on some components. Do you think that if I went all JL, the amp in the Pioneer deck would be good enough to power them till i save up for 10w6v2?

i have the kenwood that changes colors too. Ive had it for about a year and some few more months and its pretty nice. ALL colors show up super well no matter day or night. IT take 10 seconds maybe to load a mp3 cd. it also rarley ever skips even if the cd is f**ked like most of mine are. Its got come cool display options, sounds good, and looks good. the only downfall i have for it is be careful when you clean it becase it scratches easily. not scratched badly, but it looks like a dirty window looks like when you dont clean it well and can see the streaks at certain angles and certain light. over all i give this cd player an A, its also only the second cd player i ever bought, but I really enjoy it.

I forgot about Eclipse decks. They're one of the best in terms of sq and features/ease of use. They also match the stock dash lights in sedan quite well and have blue *****. You can get them cheap (even the mp3 ones) if you stick to the lower line.

what's up.. I have a clarion CD player with MP3 player... its awesome... I cant believe no body mentioned Clarion... everyone thinks pioneer is the best but personally pioneer sucks.... Anyways my deck is on the CE-NET so you can add whatever options you want down the line... I have the DVD player and LCD screen to and it all interfaces great. I pretty much always have an MP3 disc in there on random so its got like over 100 songs.... I say go for a Clarion, you won't be disappointed!

alpine cda-9807, you can get it on ebay for about $240 shipped. It has 3 pre outs(sub, front, back,), a remote, sub control and it is a wma and mp3 player. also it looks great b/c it is silver. i would say it is the best mp3 player you can get for 200 bucks
