HU display, hard to read LCD!!! help
i have a Alpine CDM 7871 HU and have some trouble. apparently, due to the angle of the dash, i am not able to read the LCD properly because the dash tilts backwards too much. i pulled the HU out and sort of custom mounted it for now, but it is not in flush. i was wondering if anyone else is having the same issues and if so.. is there any way to resolve it or do you have any HU reccomendations that dont have LCD screens that dissappear when u look from an angle.

Hey Silversleeper. Yeah I had the same type of problem with my old HU. Couldn't read a dam thing in the daytime. So I went out and bought a Pioneer deck with an OEL display. (DEX-P7300) Works out just fine, now. I can read the entire display, even in direct sunlight. Suweeeeeet
Pioneer Claims that their Organic EL doesn't drown out in direct Sunlight, but if you have one,, and it's installed in your 7th Gen. You would know that that bitch still drowns out in sunlight, you can't read the display.

yea.. i mean my alpine has a real nice read out.. its a bright and very clean display... but the friggin angle of the dash is whats conflictin my view. ?? for Abstract, did u mount ur headunit in there in some other manner? do u have the alpine with the green letters LCD? cuz i think that ones easier to read from angles. mine is the bright white text LCD. its all in the angle that makes it difficult. any ideas guys? like a custom face plate adapter. i tried to mount the sucker in at an angle but noticed the big metal bar runnin across our dashes got in the way. heres what my screen looks like. this is my head unit:
just so u can get an idea of what the LCD looks like.

Hey silversleeper. If you want to keep the HU you have, check the DIY section, or other threads. There is somewhere on this site that I read about people moving the HU down to where the 12-volt power socket is. Yeah it involves glassing and bondo to make it fit, but then hey, if you do that, maybe a monitor where the original HU is and a DVD or PS2 or X-Box in the glove box.
