Polk/Momo MM6 -- Will they fit?
'02 Civic Coupe EX. Would these MM6s fit in my front doors? They seem kind of deep. Also.. people are talking about enclosing them in "MDF" baffles... saying theyre easy to make and all. What exactly is MDF and do I really need a baffle? I was told by Audio Techs that I dont...

i dont htink you want polk speakers anyways =) ... mdf is a type of wood, medium density fiberboard... think of it as particle board's older more hardcore brother... want more random facts on it? use 3/4" for any box you make, and a 4 foot by 8 foot sheet of it weighs 96 pounds....

I think with the Momo Polks you are paying 50% because they are speakers and the other 50% because they have the Momo name associated with them!
I heard one of the Polk trucks recently, and IMO it was one of the worst sounding factory sposored cars at the show...if not the worst. It was all Polk Momo stuff
I just put my old Polk EX3s in My GFs car, and those sound pretty good.

Also the MoMo's fit.. but you have cut out some of the plastic ring on the door panel to clear the surrounds and use a 1" Spacer (preferably MDF) so it will clear your windows..

What do you mean cut the plastic ring Mohawk Boom? You mean im going to use those stock plastic things that hold the OEM speakers... or are you talking about the OEM tweeter triangle panel? I looked at it and i dont know how i would securely mount the momo tweeters to the OEM triangle tweeter things... so im thinking of putting the tweeters down low... on the carpet area of the door panel.. good idea?

When you remove the door panel itself..the big plastic part which is part of the interior of the car.... On the backside of that panel where the speaker grill is..there's a 5/8" deep round ring, which mounts fluch against your OEM speaker spacer....you have to trim that ring down a bit

Ahh I gotcha. Thanks for the tip, your very helpful dude. Do you think the Momos will sound ok or do okay with my Pioneer DEH3400 unit and no amp? It is 22Wx4 RMS. I hope i wont run the risk of damaging these speakers.. theyre pricey. Should I wait for an amp?

It should sound OK.. without a highpass filter it's gonna sound muddy when you turn it up.. If you can, Find a "Bassblocker" set for either 90 or 100HZ and it will really make the difference

I hope to not annoy you, but what is a bassblocker set? My components come with xovers (as do all components)... isnt that a bass blocker if i tune it right? price range for bassblockers? (whatever they are) haha

the crossovers you components come with are a low pass set to 3500HZ..and a High pass for the tweeters set at 3500HZ. You can't change that. What you need is a high pass crossover to prevent your speakers from playing bass. 6.5" woofers are not made for bass..their made to play midbass and up.. (70-120hz+) a Bassblocker is just a small capacitor which you wire inline with on of your speaker wires. It will prevent the speaker from playing too low..which will cause a ton of distortion and possibly damage the speaker itself.
