w6 or w3 w/600watts
w6 or w3 w/600watts
I have 3 jl 12w0 with a mtx pro3002 amp. I think one maybe two are blown or close to it. I'm going to use a two 12" setup this time. Since I only have 600watts should I go with 2 12w6v2 or 2 12w3v2? I want sq and spl mix. They will be in a sealed enclosure. What kind of increase in sound should I expect? What do ya'll think is the lowest prices I COULD get on these subs online and from a shop. Thanks for any help

i think two 12" w6v2's getting 600 watts EACH would be good, but if i understand correct, you are pushing 600 watts total, so that would be 300 watts each, right? if thats the case, then get the 12w3v2's, jl's website states that the w3v2's have a 300 watt rms power handling, which would be perfect for you. this is just my $0.02 cents, but i would rather have one 12w6v2 running the 600 watt amp, but you said two 12" subs, so go with the w3v2's.

Yeah, I have a JL 250/1 on one 12w3, and it is too much power, the sub overexcurts when I crank it too much, so I am gonna pick up another 12, but for any setup, I would rather have my subs overpowered than underpowered, so I would go with the w3's, not w6's. Good Luck.
P.S. Make sure that if you build your box yourself, get your airspace right for w3's (that's 1.25 cu ft. per sub.) If you don't get it right, it's gonna sound crappy anyways, no matter which subs you get.

ok I went to tweeter today and the salesman said go with one 10w7 with the 600watts I have and that would KILL the three WOs or if I upgraded to two w3s. He also said that 600 watts would be ok with one 12w7. I really want a 12"or 13". So now I'm really messed up. He said go ported to do the w7 justice. I think one 12w7 ported to jls specs and use the 600 watts I have now. If thats not enough I can get the JBL 1200.1 later. What do ya'll think? I need some asprin thanks for all the response.
Yeah, so do I. I only have one 12w3 and it slams. I couldn't be happier with it. Of course, eventually I wanna go louder, but I am happy with one 12 for now. Go for it dude, I highly doubt that you'll be disappointed.
I have two JL 12" W3v4's and I'm running 300 watts to each one and that in itself is pretty loud.. It's not really spl competition loud but it's loud.. about 140.?? dB.. I've heard louder which is why I think I'm going to get two Alpine Type R's instead but anyways, if I were you, I'd go with the W3s instead.. just my opinion though but I'm sure you'll be a lot more happy with them than you would the w6s...
will type R's really be louder. I ran one overpowered type R 12, And I was quite dissapointed. mind you i didn't have a custom box for the sub. anyhow. it wasn't nearly as loud as the MTX8000 it was replacing.

I wasn't aware that JL audio had skipped over the W3v3 and released the W3v4 so soon, especially when the W3v2 is still pretty recent. you my friend have a W3v1 , but its a D4, and from what i've heard, the v2 has a higher power handling, and are a tad bit louder.
anyways, from jl's site, they state that the 12w3 v1 has a 250watt nominal power rating, where as the v2 has a 300 watt rating, anyone think there is a major difference between the v1 and v2, especially in sound?

the 12W7 in it's "purist" tunes ported enclosure would sound very nice and simply slam with 600Wrms..it can take more..but 600 will do it justice

just starting idle arguments up in here, you DID know that a 13w7 hit over 170 and took 4400 RMS in nathan munsons car, rigt? (honda civic no less )
and did you know JL tested the w7 power handling at over 10,000 watts rms? no?
but you DID know that companies lie all teh time, right? that they can say whatever the hell they want on their amps? their woofers? ever wonder why amps will sy 100 rms and do over a kilowatt? ever wonder why there are woofers out there that can take several kilowatts of power despite being rated for less than 500?
umm, you are half right, the 10w7 alone isnt rated to take over 600 rms, but who here has given them 1000+? besides me, that is..... and how about less than 300? say 255? a w7 wouldnt even feel 300 rms. 300 rms on a w7 is a rediculous waste of money.
or was there no real point in even mentioneing the w7?

Thanks all. I think I'm going with the single 12W7 ported with the mtx amp I have now (600 watts). I just hope I will handle 3ohms bridged. It may be a while, I'm going to build a new sub box for my wifes car first. I can't seem to figure out winisd. Can someone give me box dimensions and port size for single MTX6000 12" ported to say 31 or 32 HZ. This will be my first ported enclosure. Good test for my system I guess. Thanks all.
