Bass findings..

well after owning many subs and amps and wasing tons of money I'm here to share my Objective findings and observations.

For Audiophile SQ..a Class A/B amp is needed.. There's is a noticable difference with Class D amps abover 55hz or so with overhang due to slow slewing rates.

I've owned and used the following subs in my day. Kicker Solobaric 12 (round), Boston Acoustins 12.5 and 8.5 LF woofers. Audiomobile EVO-R 12 woofers. Image Dynamics IDMAX D2's (12's), Eclipse alum 12 SVC.. Eclipse alum 15 SVC.. 2 Eclipse 87150 DVC 8ohm, 3 JL audio 10W3 V6's.

The following amps have been used. PPI 2600.2(extremly controlled tight bass). Micro/ U-Dimension 1k.1. Tons of power..very good Xo.. bass over 55hz suffered overhang. Lightning Audio S2.500. Tight hammering bass.. clean all the way thriugh.. Memphis 1500D... Earth shaking power.. slower responce above 40hz..Arc Audio 2500CXL. Insane woofer controll.. despite it's 1150 watts...it hit harder with kickdrums and such than the memphis 1500D..Bass was always controlled and precise... Arc 1500D-R.. Tons of power..some overhang in the 50Hz+ Bass..Awesome for single note burps.... Arc 2100CXL..380 watts that hits like 700 with kick drums and puncing bass.. SPL in spees isn;t too fantasic..bas sis always tight and controlled.

Small Box subs Never work out in "optimal" Enclosured plotted b Win ISD.. the subs susonsion is often too loose and noticable overhang/Sloppiness sets in....Also.. if in a Manufactuere optimal enclosure subs transients are a touch slow and boomy...low end extansions suffers a few DB's under 40hz...

Mid box woofers..ike the IDMAX,,,require mortrunk room... have all the good 40+ hz bass features you'll ever need. But low end still seems over amped with cabin gain and maks i hard to integrady music with subs..

Despite all my efforts I just can;t mimick a sound suskos' near field monitors.....so my next effort will be a pair of 10" IDMAX woofers in a free-air setup with a puny 380Wrms to the pair...I'm hopling this is the tue sound I'm seeking for an ultimate comparison...

Cheers

i was thinking bout using a Kicker KX1200.1 along with a couple 12" L7 Solos in a medium sized box. What do you think bout this setup? I really want that "heard from a block away" effect ...so give me some advice.

The L7's work much better in small boxes if your going the sealed route.. they work even better in medium sized ported enclosures. If you want block rattling bass. Just put them in Kickers reccomended 35hz tuned enclosures. they'll still sound plenty good and they'll be insanely loud.
